Welcome to Susan's! You'll find a way. Believe me. This thing will push you to find solutions. Don't give up. We have members from around the world so don't be afraid to ask questions. But be specific. I'm not sure what you are asking for.

Please check out the following links for site rules, helpful tips and other info...

I mean my doctor wont give me a reason why she wont start me on hrt?

Can you find a different doctor? I've always had difficulties in finding doctors who might help. But they are out there. Some doctors are sympathetic but don't know what to do. Ask for a referral if she won't give you a script.

I have tried finding a different doctor but they are not very understanding. I have to go on the nhs unfortunatly .

Ask him specifically for a referral to a Gender Identity Clinic.
Your doctor cannot prescribe you hormones.

Once you go through the GIC they can approve you for hormones which your GP would then be able to issue but it will take time (12 month wait to say "hello" for me)

Not sure where in the UK you are but in Scotland (Glasgow) you are able to self refer directly to Sandyford others GICs may have the same/similar policies.

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Gender-dysphoria/Pages/Treatment.aspx is probably as good a place as any to start.

Hi Cheri

Take a look at this document which outlines the process in the UK (Specifically England) and I recommand you take a copy of it to your GP when you ask for a referral to a GIC.

https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/int-gend-proto.pdf

You can choose which GIC you want to go to and choose wisely.  Some have extremely long waits, the rest just have long waits and its hard at the moment to judge some of the lists as the latest info published on http://uktrans.info/waitingtimes is from back in October last year.  Some GIC's will offer more support services than others.

Once you have your GIC choice, most have their own websites and often have their referral forms on there too, if so print it out and fill it in as best you can to make less work for your GP.

As for meds, GP's can prescribe bridging HRT but unless your not their first trans patient is extremely unlikely they will, there are some private routes available, quickest will likely be dr webberley at gendergp.co.uk who will prescribe them under informed consent, if you want a more GIC like experience there is gendercare run by charing cross doctors, and the GIC like experience with them is starting to include the wait!

Either way be prepared for frustration but things do get there in the end.

Hello and welcome  :)

The NHS guidelines have been changed in 2014.
People are now able to self refer and to choose the GIC.
They may be referred through a GP though.
There are some GIC with short waiting times. The laurels usualy have a good reputation and short waiting times.

Unless you are under 18 then you would be referred to Tavistock in London.

You may contact the link concerning bridging treatment and get informed about possibilities.

If you are under 19 you might contact this group, they are specifically there for the support of transgender youth in the UK :

The sad truth is they can but feel not well educated to do so.
Imo a lot of medical personnel show it can be done, and done well.
It is hoped more people offer services for transgender people.
The services up to now are clearly overstrained imo.

Basically its not your fault. Its just a way people are. And cycles with repressions and breakthroughs are not healthy. It may be better to look for treatment.

Here is a link where there are experienced therapists, which may help you answer a few questions and maybe guide you :

They have therapists experienced in gender issues.

This is shocking, you should report them to the GMC, who have clear publications and guidance on how the GP should behave in these situations. Don't give up, there are good GPs out there, maybe aim for female and/or a younger GP who may have a more supportive view.

Megan.

FYI, your GP should be following the guidance here:
http://www.gmc-uk.org/guidance/28851.asp
Make yourself familiar with it and defend your corner.
  •

Lisa55

Sorry to hear that.  If you have to fight them defiantly get onto the GMC and probably more likely to get something done, PALS

Also take a look at the GP finder to see if there are better options in your area.
