I love talking, yet I hate my voice.

It's been the biggest source of my dysphoria for a long time now. This probably has to do with the fact that I have means to deal with other sources of dysphoria (I.e., binding, packing, haircuts, etc.), but when it comes to my voice, I have nothing. Even if I do pass initially, it's gone once I open my mouth and that is unbelievably frustrating. I know that it will drop when I do get on T, but in the meantime, does anyone have any tips on how to naturally lower it? It's killing me.

Thanks.

Search Youtube for "Boom Your Voice".

Summary: It's a vocal exercise in which you make various sounds ending in "ng", as deep as you can without straining your voice, and while holding the note you tilt your head back. It stretches the vocal cords, resulting in a temporarily deeper voice. If done regularly, two things happen. 1. Your range will be slightly extended from regular stretching. 2. If you're doing this right it will help train you to use your "chest voice" rather than "head voice". You may want to look up videos on that too.

Stop immediately if anything hurts, and try again in a day or two (provided it doesn't hurt). It may feel strange at first but should not be painful.

I also recommend the Art of Manliness video, "How to develop a manly voice".

And this page.

A lot of trans guys seem to expect that T will 100% masculinize their voice on its own, but there's more to it than thicker vocal cords, especially for guys who have picked up speech patterns like upspeak. I've met (presumably just due to odds) cis men that I doubtlessly would've misgendered over the phone because they spoke in a head rather than chest voice with feminine speech patterns.

Which isn't to say that any guy must change these speech habits. Some guys have a more typically feminine speech style and are ok with that. That's fine. Just pointing this stuff out for the guys who would want to change it.

Practice and try to stretch the tone down while you talk. I'd done a series of video tutorials for work and when I was rambling over them I just made sure to keep stretching the voice down.

About a year on and my range has increased in the downward range even without T.
