This is so alarming to me! The men on both sides of my family didn't start thinning out till they were in their mid 30s, and I'm barely 23!

I know the first 3 months my doctor prescribed androgel to me and told me to use one pump on each shoulder, then after 3 months of that she freaked out and said my levels were too high and lowered my dose to just one pump on one shoulder. But the hair loss hasn't stopped and I don't see her again till next month. For now I've just stopped T cold turkey out of desperstion.

Is it normal to loose this much hair in such a small amount of time?? All trans guys I've seen diddnt loose this much hair this quick.. Even when having the bald gene on both sides of the family.

(Balding for me is not an option) and now I think I have to choose between passing and having no hair. Is it possible that an even lower dose will help?

Welcome to Susan's Place. From my MTF experience, elimination of testosterone will often allow lost hair to regrow. Newley lost hair is more likely to regrow than hair that has been gone for a long time. The problem is something called DHT which is produced from testosterone and is far more powerful than testosterone. There are a number of medications that will block DHT and often will prevent hair growth and allow some regrowth. A few can have serious side effect so think about it carefully before agreeing to a hair loss drug.

It is possible that a lower dosage would help with the problem but consider that some CIS women also have problems with hair loss so lower levels may not be the full solution to the problem.

You could talk to the doctor about something with a lower concentration so you don't have to risk a varying dosage because of a partial stroke of the pump. Most of all, discuss this with your doctor because we often react differently to treatment so it's common to adjust the treatment plan to match our body.

If you're genetically pre-disposed to baldness and take T, you can expect baldness. While it is concerning that it happened so quickly to you, it isn't something that would necessarily be avoidable if it's genetically related.

Like Dena mentioned, you could try lower doses or a different concentration of T to see if those options help.

You could also look into Finasteride. I believe I heard of at least one other guy taking it when he started losing hair, but can't personally speak to whether or not it'll help you.
