I know two of us here are attending Southern Comfort Conference at the end of September in the Ft. Lauderdale area.  Anyone else attending?

Southern Comfort Transgender Conference is held in the greater Ft. Lauderdale area starting last year.  This year it's September 27th through October 1st.  Previously it was held in Atlanta.  So far, two of us from here at Susan's are attending and several years ago in Atlanta we had something like 12 people from Susan's attend.  Lots of seminars for all levels of transgender both MtF and FtM, vendors, golf one morning at the Boneventure, usually some surgeons giving presentations.  And some partying!  OK, lots of partying.

Oh, it's nothing.  Except that it's probably the largest, most prominent, and highest attended annual transgender conference in the entire USA.  :)  If you live in Ft. Lauderdale, you totally should go!

At one time, not just the USA, the world.  IIRC the year 2000 was the largest gathering of transgender people ever, something like 800 attendees.  We had people from Hong Kong to Dubai.  Some of the people listed as attending this year are Marci Bowers, Harvard swimmer Schuyler Bailar who was featured on 60 Minutes, United/Skywest Captain Jessica Taylor, comedienne Jaye McBride and possibly a young lady who has a reality show.

It's very  tempting but unfortunately this year I am committed to work until the 28th so  I couldn't fly  until the 29th. Maybe next year.

Most of the seminars and such don't get started until Thursday the 29th.  The 27th is mostly the volunteers getting sorted out, the 28th is Princess Day which is mostly for newcomers and anyone else interested in a makeover, mani/pedi, etc.  Dinner out that night, etc.

I wanted to attend during the Atlanta years, but tried to man up for the wife. Now that we moved away from Fort Lauderdale back to ATL the SCC moves, lol. Well, hopefully one year I will be able to attend along with the wife!

I went a couple of times in the 2000s when it was in Atlanta and had a blast.  I didn't go to many seminars, but I did go to Backstreet and the goth club the name of which i've forgotten.   Fun times.

I have never heard of this before. It sounds amazing! Maybe next year then  :)

I went to 5 or 6 back in Atlanta, but work tended to get in the middle of each one over the last few years. What is the new venue like? I always loved how Atlanta opened their arms to us. I spent less time in organized activities and more time getting out and about.

Does any one have any experience with the new venue?

Would that goth club be The Chamber?  Backstreet was a blast and one of our home base clubs!

Backstreet unfortunately closed when Atlanta passed the 3AM close time for establishments serving alcohol.  3AM was about the time things really got going at Backstreet and it didn't survive the law.  Fortunately, Charlie Brown still has his drag show at another location.

I loved the Chamber!

The Chamber was interesting, no doubt about that.

I don't have any direct experience but I have several friends who went last year and a close friend who is chair of the conference this year.  They all agree it's a great location.  Still lots of activities for dining, shopping, Hard Rock Casino.

I can't as I have a commitment that weekend.

I used to go to Be All in Chicago and it was a blast. Unfortunately that conference no longer exists.  I really miss it.

If anyone is considering going to SC, Go! You won't regret it.
