Hello,

So I've got a few weeks until my next electrolysis appointment and my upper lip shadow is annoyingly obvious (to me at least).

It's not that thick but it's not unsubstantial either, and shaving is not removing the shadow. I'm looking for a way to remove it for a few weeks. My options are basically waxing or chemical hair removal.

Does anybody have any advice on this subject to help me decide?

Thanks!

For a moment there I thought you were talking about some kind of surgery I'd never heard of. Its quite a disturbing thought.

If you actually do manage to remove it then I very much doubt electrolysis is going to work when you get back to it. I think you're left with cosmetics to cover it.

I was thinking if I wax it then it would grow back before my next appointment, although I'm not sure how that affects electro

Also, what cosmetics are best to cover it? I've just been using my normal concealer but it's not doing a great job

I found using a coral lipstick on the lip or heavier beard area countered the dark shadow but left a red tinge. I then used a pale green concealer stick to balance the red and finally my normal foundation to finish off the job. Hope it helps - Anne

Shaving doesn't remove the shadow because the color comes from the roots underneath the surface of the skin. I cannot imagine trying to wax your upper lip, unless you have already done electrolysis and the hairs are re-growth. Not only would it be extremely painful, you could really damage your skin.  Depilatories could also be an unwise choice. The skin under you nose is very sensitive! Please read the label of any product before attempting that.

Before I had electrolysis, I used Dermablend foundation, and it worked fairly well on beard shadow.

With kindness,

I use an orange contour colour on my dark beard area and it works brilliantly....counter intuitive I know but give it a whirl you will be surprised.

My electrolysis technician told me that she would kill/hurt me if I plucked in any way the hairs she is working on. She said it is damaging and will not be easy to get out with electrolysis in the future.

I would vote for the foundation too.

Warmly,

Yep, just like what the other ladies have said colour correction is the key. Do not pluck or wax your soon to be treated hair by electrolysis because it will make it worse as what Joanna50 said.
In my makeup artist class we were taught about the colour wheel, the colour that are opposite of each other will cancel one another out. http://www.colormatters.com/color-and-design/basic-color-theory
So find the closest shade of your shadow and use the opposite colour to neutralize it, then apply some medium to heavy coverage foundation. Do not apply them too thick, as thin as you possibly can. Just remember you can always add more if it is not enough, rather than using too much and have to remove them altogether. Only apply concealer if by the end it still peeking through.
Here's another site that explains it in a bit more detail http://feminizationsecrets.com/transgender-crossdressing-beard-shadow/
Goodluck :)

Good gosh like AnonyMs I thought you wanted to chop your lip off  :o . Like others have posted the red/orange undercoat will do wonders.

My poor wording has obviously resulted in me portraying myself as a self mutilating lip hater. I don't like my upper lip shadow but I'd kinda like to keep that top lip!

How very British of you. Make sure it is stiff ;)- (oh sorry, no rude, additional pun intended).

you sure don't want to wax or pluck. It screws up the root and makes it doubly tough to remove for the electrologist. I was told that anything you do to remove hair beside shaving makes it more difficult for the electrologist in the long run :(

That would be disturbing in a Jim Carrey as Fire Marshall Bill from "in living color" kind of way  ;D
