Congratulations to Susan on reaching a landmark $6000 in donation money to the online gaming channel: Zombie Barricades!

http://www.twitch.tv/zombie_barricades

Susan now sits proudly at no. 4 of the all time donor list. Well done!

A big Thank You to all the members of susans.org whose generous monthly donations have made this possible!

This is not a secret; nor is it a scandal in any way, shape, form, or fashion.

The donations have been 10$ here 20$ there over 4-5 years. I get 25+ hours of entertainment a week watching the streamer (I don't have cable TV) . If you average it out, I have been donating  between $20 and 30$ a week, an average of less than 1$ per hour spent watching. It's still cheaper than Cable TV.

Why do I donate to him? He makes me laugh, something I sorely need in my life.

All donations come from my personal portion of the monthly goal, and how I spend that to put it bluntly, is none of your damn business.

I also love the stalking aspect, but keep on digging; I never do or say anything in private, that I would be embarrassed of, if it is made public.

If you don't wanna donate, you do not have to; with that being said, I appreciate everyone who does. But, be advised, a small portion of your donation may go towards things that I enjoy.

It darned well better! You need to take care of yourself.

. . . okay?  How'd you feel if your employer started demanding your credit card statements, and policing your every purchase?  "Really?  Did you need to buy the $10 lipstick?  You shouldn't be asking for a raise, you should buy cheaper lipstick."  Yuck.

Part of keeping Susan's up and running is keeping Susan up and running.  That's transparent and obvious to donators.  Part of her income is going to go to entertainment, just like anybody else.  Calling Susan out because of this is rather shameful.

Wow Susan!

I wonder why people take offense at that... I guess some people have no clue how much time, effort and headaches it takes to even run a forum, and keep it running. Sadly, I speak from experience and know how hard it is.  Last thing we want -and need- is an admin who is bored and hits the self-destruct button on the admin panel. ;D

Hey, I do that!

I often donate to support things that I enjoy.  Like this site.  :D

Thank you for providing such a nice, safe space for us, Susan.

I happily do a monthly subscription and, when I can, add in a donation.  I happen to know pretty close to how much Susan has spent on this site since 1995 out of her own billfold.  And I know the amount she has received from our contributions is a very small percentage of what she's spent over the years.  Do I begrudge her a portion of the income from this site?  Not a bit considering how much this site has meant to me since 1997.

I agree wholeheartedly to all the positive comments.

Without you Susan and the site you have built, we would not have the fantastic community you have drawn together.

I, like the others think that you need to belong to other stuff to keep sane. The rest of us do that with our own finances, just like subscribing here. My wife thinks it great that you are here to support me and I do not begrudge you any luxury that you may choose to have.

I do think, as I have mentioned before that you should charge a minimum fee to all that want to post. Those that just want to browse can free of charge but those wanting to join in should contribute something even $2.00.

That way you will meet all monthly goals and have help to live.

Thank you Susan.

This.

The fact that Susan has spent an impressive number of years building and maintaining this site does not mean that she doesn't deserve – or need – a life outside it. Or if one wants to look at it from a slightly different angle, maintaining the site requires money and time, and it's an easy guess that the time she's putting into this would be worth much more than my meagre donations, even priced at a minimum wage rate.

I think there's an appealing integrity showing though here. Asking for donations for your site, and not being to cheap to donate to others, even when you no doubt could use that money yourself.

Just so you know I donate to members in need occasionally as well, but generally do not talk about it. Other staff members do even more than I can. When I have extra money it benefits the community.

Since Jessica Merriman wants to comment behind a facebook profile block about me let me post and respond to her concerns here..

Quote"Susan's reply to her members over the scandal of being the highest donor in a gaming site.

Made me nauseated. Did not even deny she spent donations to the gaming site. Her attitude in the reply shows someone with no moral compass. She BEGS for donations to keep the trans site open while spending thousands of those donations in online gaming. How anyone can keep funding her frivolous life style is beyond me.

People you are being taken by this con person!!!!!!"

1. It's was not a secret, nor was it a scandal.

2. Let me again state for the record, how i spent my portion of the monthly goal is my business. As long as the site's bills are paid and they have been for 20 years now that is and will remain my private business.

3. I am #4 on the list not #1.

4. My donations were over 4 years, it's not like I am giving hundreds or thounsands of dollars a week.

The average donation has been $10.00-$20.00 once a week, some weeks I have done more. Since the parent post was made, I donated another $20.00 to cover this week. My donations average less than $1.00 an hour spent watching, hell I wish people would donate $1.00 per hour they spend on my web site, I would be rich!

Con artist statement

I am a con person, am I Jessica? Well this con artist paid 17 years of bills for the site out of her own pocket and didn't ask for a dime from the members during that entire time.

Only in the last 3 years have I asked for donations, only in the last year and a half have I personally drawn any money out of the site.

$200,000 (Minimum spent over 20 years) - $31,200 (18 months @400 a week)  =  $168,000 in the hole.  Not to mention that I spend 60-100 hours or more a week working on the site. At the federal minimum wage that should equal $503-$725 a week, So I am down $100-$325 a week as it stands, which technically should be added to my total.  I should also be entitled to more than the minimum wage right?

We can hire a web site administrator lets see $63,766-$87,913 that's $1,226-$1,690 a week. Then we need a server administrator another job I do $41,971 - $89,407 a year, Database Administrator  $59,100 - $103,500, Community manager $31,149 - $73,118,  Editor $29,447 - $81,296.  Since I have 20 years experience in each of those jobs I would be at the top of the pay scales, so lets see; I should technically be making $8,369.88 a week.  I am saving the members $414,434.00 a year, and you are bitching about $1,600 a month.

Then you have the fact that many months I don't even get my full $1,600 as was the case from December to May.

I am hardly a con artist.

As long as we continue to meet the very reasonable monthly goal No one is, or will be required to contribute to the site.

It is a great way to build a portfolio, resume, and a following, especially if you are looking to do work a writing field. If you are interested send a private forum message or email to Susan.

OMG. Will you do real work for free? Really, it looks good on your resume... Really.

Yep sure does I covered a local writers conference for many years, and one of the things the professional agents they brought in told told the attendees being a contributing writing for a local news site or blog is exactly what I stated it was, Susan's place is a much better place to write for than any local web site. We are one of the largest GLBT sites, and the largest Trans site.

And yet based on your previous post about my donations to the gaming site referenced herein, you expect me to work for free since everything is my spending site donations.

To ensure that you are not bothered by my requests for support going forward Jessica you are banned from this site. I have also turned off your pm notifications so you won't receive the support requests that way either.

Susan! You have no need to explain yourself to us, we see what you do for us every day. You have no need to explain yourself to Jessica, or anyone who listens to her, they don't want to believe what you say anyway.

You're a trans woman, you should know all that, it's pretty much how we relate to the entire world.

Love you, (and trust you,) sweetie. Always.

Just from reading this thread, I decided to put down a subscription rather than just donations here and there.
Susan, your dedication in creating a home to anyone and everyone who is willing to play their own part in making a family, is a lot of work. You put heart in what you do, and to keep this running as smooth as possible. This site is there to help anyone in need, even your own. In any ability to your own, you could easily make it mandatory for a subscription to be a part of the community, to be able to post, comment, or just be a part of it, but you do not.
Also despite bills, essentials, and overall maintenance for the site and your own, you do need Susan time (yes, I claim it as a need rather than just a want). Whether Susan time constitutes to relaxing in any way shape or form, entertainment is part of this, and well I have no actions or words to say otherwise.

I would even put it out there, that my portion of donations can be used for any portion of your own justification, be it bills, medical payments, or even for luxury. All I know is I put that donation there for Susan to decide what is right for Susan.

Susan, I agree with Dee 120%. You have been targeted by the very small percentage of negative, vindictive minority.
Most of us would love to see you recoup the investment you have made and more. I know your personal reward is deeper than money and you are to be commended for having such a wonderful heart.

If Congressman Canter can take $165,000 for steakhouses. And Cristie can spend $300,000 on booze. And the RNC spend $2 million on prostitutes Susan has more than enough right to enjoying whatever pleases her. I know she and the wonderful site have improved my life considerably. Wait for it... If Joel Oseen can take $10,000,000 from his flock for a home, what's wrong with Susan having a little fun. Even Binny Hin asked for spending money at one of his prayer meetings in Vegas so he and his wife can gamble.

I was glancing back through old announcement posts tonight, and saw this again. Here's an update for you.

During the last 65 weeks since this was originally brought up on the site, I have donated an additional $661. That works out to roughly $10.16 a week. I don't watch as much as I used to, but I still enjoy tuning in enough to maintain my small level of support.

My donations range anywhere between $5 to $20 at a time, usually depending on how much he made me laugh.

Hi
Just started small donations, but on the Gaming and on line entertainment - Go Girl Go. I play an old Korean game on US Server called Rappelz and I have about 6 Characters (of my 30+) in the top 20 of their class (level 170+ off work too much in last 6 years) and I really find it therapeutic to be able to switch off the crap in my work head - that and going to the gym for a real hot workout of course... I have spent similar amounts over several years for my entertainment ant relaxation so I am fully behind you spending a little on gaming/online and the like as you have a life outside this website,

What? Some donation money being used as entertainment for the person receiving the donations!?! Its like people don't realize when they're donating money to help run costs, one of the 'costs of living' is the sanity of the person asking for the donations. God forbid if you have to care for yourself while pouring so much effort into the site and services.

I've been wanting to donate again, but money is still a bit tight and when I have some available I will be donating again.

Go Susan! This site rocks!

I donate when I afford to. I see nothing wrong with this.

Maybe write it down in the donator's description, in that way noone is surprised.

I'm in three non-profit organizations. We use the members' money to plan our activities for the year. We use it for a conference. Nobody has ever said we are not allowed to do that. To keep the organizations running, we need to plan. Simple as that.

If members' money is needed for TV to keep Susan going, that is ok by me. [emoji6]

You spend hours and hours on this site. I would not want it to be closed down.
