Hello, my name is Colten, I am from Merritt island, Florida. I have been wishing to be a female for a long time now but I've always hid it, and still am, because I don't the money to start to transition, I'm 19 and still live with my parents, and I don't know if I am feminine enough, physically, to transition well. So, what can I do physically and psycologically, with a limited income to start to pass as a female? I also like girls, so what can I do as a trans female to go about attracting girls? Hi Colten,

Welcome to the site.

Usually, the first suggestion would be to visit a gender therapist. Are you covered by insurance(yours or your parents?)? A therapist helps one figure out what you hope or expect out of any sort of transition and if that is the right path. From there, if you are covered hormone therapy helps with further feminizing features. You are still young enough that they would potentially have a good result.(I'm about 50 and am getting some results, soo...)

Do your parents know. Would they be likely to be supportive?

As far as attracting others... I am sure there are a lot of members with advice. However, we are not really a dating site. So while we support, encourage and give suggestions based on personal experience, you may have to check here and elsewhere.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Transition normally take a few years to complete but you can pay as you go so a big pile of money isn't required. In addition, many health insurance companies cover it along with medical systems in socialized countries. As for appearing feminine, you might be surprised what makeup, hair and attention to detail can accomplish. HRT will also make a difference given time. A therapist is a good place to start but feel free to work on other parts of the transition with the aid of this site. As for girls, I am not sure anybody here has an answer that works all the time. It really depends on who you meet.

Try this: get some girl clothes, a neutral haircut, start playing around with makeup/nails/jewelry. Shave everywhere.

When I was your age, I could pass with minimal effort. That is no longer possible (sigh). Anyhow, I have discovered that mature women are easy to talk to now that it is obvious which way I am bent. I guess I appear less predatory, and anyhow I am in a committed, forever relationship with a wonderful woman.
