Hello, I'm new to this forum, but not to being trans. I got my referral for surgery and haven't been able to find much info about Dr Garcia.
I'm searching for first hand experiences. Thanks in advance for any help.

Update: got my first consulation app scheduled for the 19th of July - I'll update this after

thanks
- yeah other than a separate thread on here that stated at a consult in January Dr Garcia said he had performed about 50 vaginoplasty's.

Garcia is 'the' Dr for those of us north of San Francisco who have the california state insurance.

Is that what they call medi-cal ?

yeah, it used to be medi-cal, but it changed a couple years ago. Now it's split up regionally in the state. The one I have is Partnership Health, there are two for SF, one is Healthy San Francisco and I can't remember the name of the other one. I know that Dr Satterwhite takes Healthy San Francisco, but not Partnership.

First appointment update:

Well I'm impressed, he seems like a really genuine person who is personally invested in helping trans people. Quite possibly the first doctor I've ever got the impression that I could trust them.

He has me scheduled for an orchi in 6 weeks, because I'm still quitting cigarettes and the vaginoplasty another 6 weeks after. The reasoning for this decision was that I should be cig free for 2 months before the main surgery and in a better place mentally after the Orchi. I agree with this as being a good plan for me.

The orchi he plans to do in office and described the procedure as making an incision, getting the boys out there and then snip and sew and on my way home. A procedure that wouldn't remove any skin tissue.

His parameters for needing to use scrotal skin to create depth is that if you have 5 inches of penis tube skin, not counting the head that he doesn't need to use the scrotal skin for the inner vagina. So if you have enough than there's no need for pre-surgery hair removal, if not than he recommends laser treatments.

Surely I'm missing things, but wanted to update for the next one searching for info on Garcia. Ask me anything.
Also @ 52:19 into this video you can see examples of his work.

I've never heard of doing in orchi first like that. What is the idea behind it?

"I've never heard of doing in orchi first like that. What is the idea behind it?"

The reasoning for this decision was that he wants me to be cigarette free for 2 months before the main surgery and I will be in a better place mentally after the Orchi also. I agree with this as being a good plan for me. He left it up to me to do it like that or not, but suggested it.

"Have you seen any examples of his work?"

There's a video on youtube named - Sexual Health During Recovery: Men Women and Transgender People - It's Dr Garcia giving a presentation at UCSF. There are images, but the link was removed by a moderator when I posted it before.

He told me he trained in England, but I forgot the Dr's name. Lots of info going back and forth in a short time, sorry. From the photos and the way he assured me that it would be pretty and perfect as could be, with the other team members chiming in the same right away, I feel pretty dam good about it.
All things considered, like I have no other way of doing this, I feel really lucky right now and I'm counting the days cause this is saving my life.

Ow yeah and they do breast augmentation also. Not Dr Garcia but UCSF and my state health insurance is covering it. After I'm all healed from the vaginoplasty

Still waiting.
Waiting pretty much sucks bad.  Like, ow we'll cure your life long disease, in just about 40 or 50 days from now..... just hold on.... hahahaha omg ....
to everyone who has unpacked the deep mental stuff in preparation for the 'Big Heal" only to just sit and wait & try and carry all other life responsibilities while your ruling thought is omg this is all going to be pretty much over if I can figure out how to maintain the next month or so..  a tip of the hat to you  ... cause  dammit I'm ready NOW, like NOW NOW even

Would still love to find someone who has had vaginoplasty with Dr Garcia for the first hand info.

Update on my situation - I quit smoking(miserable experience) and don't think were going to do the Orchiectomy before Vaginoplasty anymore.  Just waiting on insurance pre-authorization. Got all my letters. That was a pain in the ass cause I had bad info about which letters I needed and ended up scrambling for a 2nd psych letter, but got it done.  Have had 6 actual dollars since the 9th of this month cause the first psyche letter cost me 250 bucks. crazy hard month for me.. without cigs, money... I have primary custody of my 12 and 9 year old boys also, so ya know I got everything school/homework childcare responsibilities that fully occupy my mental capacity aside from dealing with getting my healthcare taken care of. But Dammit I got this. If November would just hurry  up a bit Id be happy about that.

cheers
