Electrolysis aftercare?

I have now done over 300 hours of electrolysis (weekly six hour sessions) and I wanted to see if anyone has any aftercare suggestions/strategies to share.

I have been using a mix of neosporin & hydrocortizone during the initial 24 hours after treatment, then using a m'lis repair cream daily.

Always looking to improve my regimen if any electrolysis veterans have any wisdom to share!

I'd take 800mg of ibuprofen a couple hours before the session.  Helps minimize pain and swelling.

Try pure aloe immediately after the session, and dab face with an icepack for an hour.  The aloe is important in providing some measure of protection until the body starts closing those pores automatically.  The ice provides pain relief and again helps with swelling.  Overall redness should be gone in a couple hours, though individual points of red will persist for several days.

At the 2-hour mark, wash your face with something gentle, liberally apply witch hazel (a mild astringent that tightens up your pores enough so bad things can't get in, but old crap can still get out), and lightly moisturize to keep your skin from drying out.  This becomes a once-daily regimen.  Don't exfoliate for at least 48 hours, better to wait 72, until most of the bumpiness is down.

Absolutely don't touch your face the first couple days (except when washing, after thoroughly washing your hands), as your fingers can harbor bacteria and you don't want that getting into those open follicles.

And of course, if you feel the hairs tugging as they come out during your sessions, your zapper isn't killing the hairs, just plucking them, so make sure that isn't happening.
What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.

I've only had a little over 120 hours of electrolysis for facial hair but I mostly got my post-appointment routine from my electrologist. I don't know every detail but she generally used at least the following three... witch hazel, one of various products containing zinc oxide, and one of various products containing Arnica (i.e., Arnicare).

Once at home after a heavy session, I'd usually go to sleep with my face covered with a product containing zinc oxide, usually a baby diaper ointment of some sort such as Baby Bee Diaper Rash Ointment. I was surprised when she first mentioned it but I have to say that stuff cures inflammation quite nicely.

I also kept a tube of an Arnica cream product handy which I'd use if going out somewhere (baby diaper ointment is extremely thick, not really compatible with going out). Witch hazel is clear water-like so it's really easy to use when going out too.

... but in short, the main thing I used after heavy sessions was the rash ointment... those products and the zinc oxide they contain seemed like magic for my case.

Before you use any regime of your own I'd recommend always checking with at least your electrologist, if not your doctor or dermatologist.
