One of the ladies in my support group came over for a visit and to give me my first makeup lesson.  We started with a shopping trip for makeup supplies.  The lady in the store was very helpful, and didn't blink an eye that I was shopping for makeup in boy mode.  We made no secret of the fact that we were shopping for me, and she helped suggest colours that would complement my skin and eyes.

Then we went to my place to play with it all.  My friend explained what everything was for and coached me in how to apply it.  I'm going to need a bunch of practice (and I had to touch up the photo a bit), but I am quite happy with the result.

Lots of cismen wear makeup, and not just to look like Marilyn Manson.  You HAVE to wear it for some types of acting, and it's GREAT for hiding scars, acne, or just making yourself look better in general.  Gay and effiminate men wear it all the time, and don't forget about drag queens.  Also, some women really like to put makeup on men or style their hair.  Even that aside, many makeup companies directly cater to transwomen in their official material: they KNOW who's buying a solid chunk of their products, and they might even pride themselves on being able to make male bodies look like female ones.

That being said, you two did a good job.  I'm always amazed on what a bit of countouring on my jaw and nose, concealer/foundation on my stubble, and eyeliner on my hairline can do for me...

Hello Kathy Lauren,

Great picture! Your whole experience sound so fun and affirming; having a friend that is accepting and open to helping you in the learning process, finding the courage to shop for such things in guy mode, getting the lessons to achieve the look you seek (from a friend no less), and finally succeeding so well. Well done!

You may already be there but, for me, the next high point in the cosmetic world was when I found my self  able to get past the frustration of not "getting it right" and begin to enjoy my transformation process.
