Hey, my name is Patrick and this is my first post here.

I had my fourth testosterone shot almost a week ago. A few hours after, I started getting itchy, mostly around the edges of my binder. I was wearing my scratchiest binder so I didn't think much of it, until a coworker came by to chat and informed me that my forehead was all red. My itching increased all day and spread out from my torso to my legs and even my feet which itched intensely all night. Since I still didn't have a visible rash besides the forehead redness (which I didn't connect at the time), again I dismissed it. My girlfriend suggested I take a benadryl, and I did and eventually fell asleep. When I woke up the next day, I had a rash all over my torso which eventually developed into what I think was hives. I have never had hives before so I can't be sure. I had a patchy pink rash that seemed to travel all over my body and my face was quite red and swollen to the point where my coworkers at my night job said I look like a teenage boy (little do they know aheh) and I was sent home. I took another benadryl and my face redness went away withing an hour and my hives were totally gone the next day.

Does this sound like hives to you? And if it WAS hives and it WAS an allergic reaction to my T, why was it just now happening after my fourth shot? And why did I have zero itching or discomfort at the injection site? Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a one month follow up appointment to get my prescription refilled tomorrow and I am worried about bringing this up because I don't want to have to discontinue testosterone, but I know I will have to mention it. Has anyone ever heard of new allergies (but not to T) popping up after starting HRT? Could I be allergic to something else?

Just curious about what you all think. I will be talking to my doctor about this tomorrow.

I've had something like that caused by vitamin D deficiency. I had all sorts of theories about the cause, but only found out what it was by accident. If you don't' get much sun you might want to look into that.

It might not be T either, check the oil its mixed in.

Definitely speak to your doctor about it.

Testosterone comes suspended in oil. There are a few different kinds out there, so it's possible that you're allergic to the oil that yours was in.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I agree with the above that there is an issue with the oil used for the injection. Other brands use different oils so the only delay this should cause is obtaining a prescription with a different oil. It's possible brands were changed, the manufacture changed the oil or you developed a sensitivity to it. Bring it up to your doctors as soon as possible because it can become dangerous but it's easy to deal with.

Thanks for the replies, all.

I am fairly certain the T I took was the same for all four shots since I got both vials containing my four doses all at the same time. Even if the two vials were different, each vial contains two doses and I already had another dose from the vial I took my dose from when I broke out.

I am also assuming it is the oil and not the T itself since I guess that is pretty common, but why no irritation at the injection site??

If you've already taken the same one before and nothing happened then, then I'd say that maybe it's not the T. It could've been caused by something else. I randomly got an allergic reaction (also in the form of hives) to something (no idea what) some time last year. When I went to the doctor, he said all I could really do about it was take medicine and wait for it to pass, eventually it did go away and it hasn't really bothered me since. I wasn't on T at the time, nor did I eat anything strange or change washing powder or anything like that, it really seemed like it showed up randomly. You should still mention it to your doctor though, in case it really is from the T after all.

So I went to the clinic (planned parenthood) today. All they did was take my blood pressure and talk to me about my changes and stuff. I brought up my reaction and they were not sure if it was the T or not. My NP said it was possible that it was the T, but she was a little skeptical since I had no reaction to the first three shots. They went ahead and gave me the same prescription and told me to call them right away if it happened again and they would change me to Testosterone Enanthate I guess. I take my next shot tomorrow so I guess I'll post here again and let you guys know if I have a reaction. So I guess this is good news so far!

Other good related news is I should be getting smaller needles this time. Apparently I was supposed to get 23g 1" needles originally but the pharmacist must have ran out so they gave me whatever they had lying around, and I wound up with 21g 1.5" needles. And that was kinda painful since I am not an injection expert. Also apparently I have been paying way too much for my T by not looking for coupons and my next month's dose will only cost me $17 instead of $55 like last month.

So good news as long as I don't die of anaphylactic shock lol.
