I have been on HRT for about 10 weeks now and my breasts just started budding about a week ago. I did short run and could only endure about 30 minutes before I had to stop from the discomfort in my breasts. Is there a way to keep this from happening? I know they are a little tender when pressed or bumped but didn't think that running would cause so much discomfort.
This is entirely normal. It is extremely uncomfortable for most women (cis or trans!) to run without a sports bra. You can either go into a dept. store like Kohl's or JC Penny's (or even Vickie's) to get sized, especially if you live in a trans* accepting area. But, in case that would be uncomfortable or anxiety inducing for you, there's another option: Amazon.
So, this is not meant to be a shill, but if you do have anxiety issues with regards to shopping for clothing publicly (if not, great! I just want to cover this, in case), I would suggest investing in a year subscription to Amazon Prime. The reason for this is that they have an amazing clothing selection, often discounted, two day free shipping for a ridiculous number of items with Prime, and they let you return almost anything.
I find it useful for more than just not having to go to a store. Because I can return pretty much anything that is sold via Amazon Fulfillment (third party sellers, check the fine print), I can order something and if it turns out it doesn't fit, back it goes! And Amazon pays the return shipping, even. It's great, especially for those of us who have preferences for unusual styles (no, I never grew out of being a goth, and I have been able to expand my wardrobe very squeefully).
But! Bras. First, if you haven't already, you want to take your measurements (
clicky for google search!). You'll need to know what general size you're looking for, even for sports bras.
If you go through Amazon, watch the ratings of whether the sizing is accurate. If a lot of people say, no, it isn't, then you may want to backspace or read the reviews to find out whether it runs small or large. There are a LOT of options out there to choose from, and I'll warn you, I have lost many hours to browsing clothing on Amazon.
Good news: sports bras are usually less expensive than other types of bra. There are lots of styles and options. You may even want to just browse Amazon or dept. store websites to get an idea of what's available and what looks appealing to you.
If you choose the Amazon route (and confirm the bras are returnable), then you have the option of ordering a few to try on in the privacy of your own home, and anything that doesn't fit right or isn't comfortable can go right back to whence it came.

If you would prefer to shop in stores, however, completely disregard this. I include it because I have known so many lovely trans ladies early in transition that had no idea this was even an option. So, I always make sure to mention it when the subject of bras comes up now, just so folks know about further options. I know how intimidated I was first time I went bra shopping in a store. Actually, I'd rather forget about that entire experience. *twitch*
