I make sure that I get the smallest waist band. I found that when I use a larger band it doesn't hold as well. Things shift and some pain and discomfort follows. I usually never have pain with this method. Even when putting compression shorts over it for when I wear leggings. Tape always hurts me eventually so I try to stay away from that unless I'm going in water. Hope this helps
