Hello all I'd like to know how prescription for hormones works ? Have you to be seen every time when your almost out ? By a GP or endocrinologist? What if I was in the UK (live in Ireland) and wanted to get my prescription there ? How much do they give you to cover how many weeks / months before you've to return? Thanks in advanced

You need to see a doctor for blood work every time your prescription is updated. Normally you would see an endocrinologist but sometimes other people will write the prescription. In my case, a nurse practitioner writes my prescription. The length of the prescription can be as short as a month when dosages are being adjusted, 3 months is typical and 6 months is used when little monitoring is required. I am on 6 months as I am post surgical but my first appointment this time around was 3 months.

I just made 3 months on hormones and going to do blood work, to see if something needs to be ajusted. If not, and everything is ok, I only need to do blood work in 6 months.

I get my prescription renewed for a whole year. Blood tests are yearly, sometimes every 6 months but optional.
I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience
