Hi
Everyone.......  ;D
I have registered here at susan's because I need guidance and my weekend was ruin thanks to a closed mined individual at social Security last Friday. I  went in to conduct business as usual and somewhere in the conversation my gender marker came up. I have been post op for 20 years. Since that timeit has been impossible to get SSA to change my gender marker. The Representative suggested that I detransition and revert to being a male. I tried explaining that I don't have any male parts. She cut me off, giving me the impression that I wouldn't be having a gender marker issue if I hadn't transitioned. This is really bothering me.  >:(I am seriously considering her advice. Other than that it is a pleasure to be here meeting all of you good people.

Welcome to Susan's Place. If you have the original paperwork that was given you after your surgery, that should be sufficient to change the gender marker on your records. If you no longer have the paper work, then you HRT or GP doctor should be able to write a letter that would be acceptable for the Social Security office. My letter from the surgeon was sufficient to change both the name and the gender on my SS card.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

HI Sasha!...

I am so sorry you had issues ... I would suggest taking a deep breath ... Making sure you have the required paperwork and trying again.. Perhaps at a different location if you don't want to deal with the same individual... As long as you have the required paperwork I think all will go well for you... I remember I had to wait about 45 minutes to be seen but once I got up to the window... I had name and gender changed within 15 minutes and the lady gave me a sincere "thank you m'ame" when we were done!

Take Care,

Ashley :)

Let go of the things that no longer serve you... Let go of the pretense of the false persona, it is not you... Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer.... She is tired of hiding and more courageous than you know... Let her prove that to you....Let her step out of the dark and feel the light upon her face.... amg🌸

Hello Sasha.

Let me first tell you that one social security worker does not represent all of them. When I had my gender marker changed, all I had to do was send a copy of the court order to them, along with the usual paperwork, and it was a done deal. Of all the documents I had changed, no agency gave me any grief.

I am surprised you are having this problem in this day and age. Please see a worker other than the one that insulted you so horrendously. There is no call for such behavior.

Hi Sasha,
You might consider printing out the regulation and having it with you. You  could then refer them to it. Also, ask for their supervisor.  Go up the chain if need be. Don't let one idiot mess with your life. Don't give them that power. I had no trouble with social security but I found that most at the DMV didn't know all the rules related to doing it.
