Hi all,

I finally made it through the SRS waitlist of Kaiser Northern California. Given the gender clinic in San Francisco, they assign you one of three surgeons: Salim, Meltzer or Satterwhite. I'm wondering if anyone has had SRS or consultations with Ali Salim with Kaiser. I can't find any information. Apparently he's been in the game for about a year or so, so I'm not entirely sure how I feel about moving forward. Also, haven't seen any results yet.

He seems to be knowledgeable and works very closely with a urologist, great bedside manner thus far, etc.

Still desiring more information though. Please share.

Roxy,

I met him personally at the Multi-Transitions clinic in Oakland. Like you, I was looking for a surgeon through Kaiser. He explained how he was trained by a surgeon in Europe, Belgium I think. He's very nice and knowledgeable, but I decided against it because he was so new (chose Satterwhite). I think though he's probably had a decent amount of experience at this point. Meet him and ask how many surgeries he's done, ask about his technique (whether he has modified it), and maybe see if he has can also show some results in his office. I wouldn't write him off. Also, ask Kaiser whether you make consultation appointments with all three of them so you can decide. That would be a reasonable request, I would think. Best of luck!

SRS is today is not rocket science surgery. Every surgeon does the same basic techniques. But it like everthing in life, practice makes perfect. If he has not done at least 500 srs I would not consider him. If he has done 500 plus then he has pics of his results, they all take pics. You are paying and you need to be assertive and ask to see his work. I have never heard of him nor seen any positive or negative comments.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

Dr. Satterwhite, whom I consider Roxy's best choice,  has done fewer than 500 but I can attest to the quality of his work.  And these three surgeons actually have different techniques, especially with Melzer doing a 2 stage procedure in which he doesn't use urethra tissue (correct me if I'm wrong, maybe he's updated his approach). I've seen some of his work that just looks weird because the tissue I'm between the labia minora is not pink at all. Just looks like regular skin. Furthermore, that urethral tissue is erogenous- its very sensitive. Dr. Salim and Dr. Satterwhite both use urethra tissue and try to create labia during the first surgery using penile tissue ( they use what you would call an advanced penile inversion technique that involves scrotal tissue grafts). I say try because oftentimes the labia can fuse or shrink (Suporn has by far the best labia minora construction since he uses nearly the entire penile shaft skin).

If you have any questions Roxy, PM me. Like I've said, I know two of the surgeons, and I've seen quite a bit of Melzer's work.

I would consider more then twice before going with a surgeon that is so new.  Like dr brassard is doing that for so many years but if you look at his first years doing the surgery, it is not comparable to the wonders he can do now.. All penile inversion surgeon have same technique but the experience changes the result SO MUCH.

Dr brassard have trained dr Belanger to do SRS.  But if you compare belanger results to brassard .. wow.... belanger results looks like a disaster ( experience)
