It looks like Texas wants to become the new North Carolina with the bathroom bill.

What I want to see in bathrooms is no more communal bathrooms. I hate them. Individual bathrooms rather than stalls in communal bathrooms.

But that's an aside. I have a theory about these unworkable bathroom bills. I have a feeling they're promoted in order that people and groups engage lawyers and legal action gets going. It's a high level scam involved in milking the public purse. Mind, it also gets the legislature to be seen to be doing something contentious that'll make the pro and anti sides feel that there's something other than drinking and fornicating going on behind closed doors in state parliaments.

I believe that these bathroom bills don't have anything to do with protecting women as they are portrayed to be  - they have everything to do with scaring uninformed voters to get votes. The scenario that is always used is protecting children from disgusting, sinful, scary people that might enter a women's room.

This same tactic was used successfully during the civil rights movement in the 1950s and again later against the gays, and now it's being recycled once again against us - why? because it works.

The fact that the scenario that they are proposing doesn't actually happen and that there are laws already on the books against miscreants in the ladies room doesn't matter to the politicians that are using this ploy. Our community is so small we are simply seen as expendable pawns with no political power that can be sacrificed as needed to get those votes.

There is an Evangelical angle in all of this too that needs no explaining.

Dan Patrick, Ted Cruz, and that crew certainly fit that bill, and they intend to spread their hateful law as far as they can spread it.

So much for a government that represents all people and the honesty of politicians.

Eva, you reminded me of something...

Throughout history, demonization of a minority for political ends has been rampant.

In Germany, the Jews were defenseless and easy targets as were gypsies and homosexuals.

In Thatchers Britain, the unemployed were defenseless and easy targets.

Later, in Majors Britain, it was single mothers that were the targets.

Now, in the USA, it's a minority few really understand and few really have heard of - transgender.

It always seems to be a minority that makes up maybe 1% of the population that's blamed for all of societies problems. I'm waiting for Puerto Rican shoe shine boys to be the target!

Hope springs eternal but I have to agree with you - the term "honest politician" is an oxymoron these days and the concept of statesmanship is long gone.

It's interesting that they are only concerned with protecting their daughters, and not their sons, from being molested.  Perhaps that's because if the wanted to protect their sons they would have to ban Republican Congressmen and Catholic Priests from entering the men's room.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

I think you put your finger on some hypocrisy there!

They are protecting the "right" of their sons to be the molesters.  Every MTF who is denied access to the women's washroom has to use the men's, where those sons are waiting.
