Yes I'm hoping someone can help me here.

I'm trying to find an Endocrinologist so when my therapist gives the okay I can start on hrt. But I'm having an extreme amount of trouble finding one.

I thought I had found one a few days ago, Dr Lorena Lewy-Alterbaum. But I called her up and while she does take my insurance for other things, for transgender related appointments she doesn't, and it costs $350 for the first appointment, and $150 for every following appointment. And I just cannot afford that.

I looked around as best as I could, all but one that I found are all the way up in the northern half of the state, 8 hours away. And the only one that is close by, over in Hollywood FL which only takes half an hour, is a Pediatric Endocrinologist, so I can't go to her.

Now I don't know what to do. At every single turn it feels like something is blocking me from getting anywhere and it's just getting more painful each time it happens.

So I hope beyond hope that someone on here knows of a Endocrinologist in my area who accepts medicare that I can go to. I live in Fort Lauderdale. Thank you.

EDIT: Got the eight hour away location wrong.

My endo is in ft Myers about 2 hours away from you but I don't know if he accepts Medicare. His name is dr Sweet. PM for contact infos or if you want to know more about him.

What I don't get is how is Miami 8 hours away from ft Lauderdale?

Reyes,

Yes, an endocrinologist is preferred, but a primary care physician can also prescribe hormones. Most will require a letter from your therapist.

Medicare reimbursement is on the low side and not all physicians accept medicare. Just google "Endocrinologists in Ft Lauderdale" and several websites will be listed. My favorite is Healthgrades. It will tell you who will accept Medicare.

Support groups in your area are a great resource for local knowledge.
