Well I can see I'm going to be in for a fight. My employer provides insurance from BCBS of Mississippi. The PPO plan is called "Welfare Healthcare Plan" so yes it's covers about what welfare covers and that's it. The coverage specifically excludes transgender medical care as in
"Sex transformation services, sex dysfunction, " So it puts gender dysphoria medical treatment in the same exclusion as erectile distinction. REALLY
So the one silver lining is the required statement " except where required by law". Well I live in Illinois so they
legally have to follow the laws of my state of residence. Illinois dept of insurance has issued rules preventing transgender discrimination. In the publication the dept cites Illinois civil code and Il administrative codes. But particularly helpful is the examples of things not allowed including
"Sex transformations and related services" this makes this exclusion illegal in Illinois.
I suspect from how my families general providers are having to fight for basic covered payments by recoding things due to BCBS MS determining things to be "not medically nessecary" that I will be in for a fight to get them to cover my endocrinologist appointments and medications. Well it won't be the first time I've had to fight the system with applicable state laws.

ugg. This is one of the few times that living in Illinois turned out to be a positive thing
