So, I was supposed to see my therapist for the first time last wedesday, but got scared of judgement and cancelled. She reached out to me via email and I told her the truth of why I cancelled and she rescheduled the appointment for me for today.

The thing is that tomorrow I have my first HRT appointment and the doctor's office said that the doctor requires the letter before treating me.  So I kind of put myself in a tight situation and my new therapist. To me delight, my therapist was so supportive and amazingly kind. She said she would have to consult her supervisor though, but that she doesn't foresee any issues with getting the letter over to my doctor's office today. She said she would call me either way though.

Well, my doctor's office was getting ready to close and I was thinking she had forgotten about me or that I wasn't getting the letter. Then I get the call and the good news. She is faxing the letter over this afternoon. Tomorrow is my first official HRT appointment.

Now I am just anxious about the doctor appointment. Is there a chance that I will get my prescription tomorrow? like an introductory dose? or will I have to wait entirely upon my blood work before any prescription?

I really hope I can at least start on an introductory dose tomorrow. Let me know what you think. Thanks=)

Love,

Vanessa

I went in to my HRT appointment with the same questions, and I too had my letter show up at the last minute.  My anxiety was through the roof.

In my case, my endocrinologist required the results of my blood test before providing a prescription.  Sadly it was a whole week between appointments.

The reality is that the doctor needs to have a firm starting point before providing and treatment.  Normally they will start you on T-blockers to verify that you can handle the effects on your liver.  Then they will slowly start on estrogen....each time getting another blood test.  I took me a month to go from first appointment to being on full dose of both.

Go with the flow and your endocrinologist treatment plan.
Therapy - December 2015
Out to Family - 15 September 2016
Start of Transition - 28 October 2016
Full Time - 2 November 2016
HRT - 23 November 2016
GCS - 30 April 2018 (Dr Brassard)

I also had to have the initial test results before getting the script, but I heard of others that got the script on the same visit that ordered the baseline tests. Personally, I would want to know the baseline before starting hormone therapy.

All the best,

I was lucky with my PCP at the VA. The VA has guidelines that allow a qualified PCP to proscribe HRT w/o the highly recommended mental/ gender ID assessment/therapy. After I confessed I was doing HRT meds already (obtained elsewhere) to my PCP, he asked if I wanted to get HRT through the VA. I initially declined (because I still had some). After reconsidering for a few days I asked for prescriptions and got them. I also had taken his suggestion to get therapy and have it scheduled. Test were done, with scheduled followups.

Congrats on getting your letter and I hope your HRT meds are received soon. Good luck on your journey and enjoy the ride.

Thank you all for the feedback.

I was so blessed today! My doctor has a lot of experience in transhealth. Thats how i found her actually. She started me on a starting dose at the same time as my first appointment!

I am super excited though. This process was actually way easier than I could ever have imagined. If I had known it was this easy I would have started way earlier in life.

Now I just and am anxious about when I will start seeing some changes, even minor, like breast pain. How soon could I possibly start feeling breast pain?

I know it takes years before I will see my full puberty, but as we all do probably, I just want to feel like im in puberty at least.

I am so excited!

   So happy for you Vanessa.

Sorry Vanessa dosages are a taboo on this site. General non specific terms are okay though. There are places you can look online for trans medical recommendations. One of them is:

Hope it helps.

Sorry about that. I was just coming back to try to delete that part of my post. I realized when I was on another forum that someone posted that please dont post your dosages because some ppl will try those dosages and can harm themselves.

So I came back to try to delete that part. Thanks for understanding.

I had to schedule 3 appointments with my therapist prior to treatment despite the fact that I had all required tests and exams done beforehand. I was also told the wait time for new patients is especially long... I waited about 2 months for the first appointment. The following appointments were put about 6 weeks apart. You can imagine how frustrated I felt with my local medical system. I guess I'm trying to say that you might already be on the expressway compared to many of us. Best of luck!
