Theory on why the LGBT population is increasing.

I wasn't really sure where to post this, but... yeah. And I'm writing this at four in the morning, so much of it is not going to make sense.

The general 'statistic' quoted is that at least 1/10 people are gay, 1/100000 are FTM and 1/30000 are MTF.

However, these are old numbers, from at least thirty years ago, when better resources and such weren't available, and people feared for their life more if they identified with "those people."

As the human population increases, as will statistic numbers. The school I attend has roughly about 175 students. Of these, there are an estimated of 20-30 students whom identify (somewhat openly) as 'GLB,' and 1 (myself) 'T.' That's close to about 14%, give or take.

In cities everywhere, the number of homosexuals, bisexuals, and transsexuals is much higher than that of thirty years ago. There are also more people in general; but because of this, our natural resources have become limited as well. And as we continue to reproduce, they will become scarcer, until there is nothing left.

So could it be, that it is the GLBT communities (who throughout history, have been persecuted worse than any other group), be our saviors?

The human species is overpopulated. Period. There is no way to get around this. China has tried to solve the problem by only allowing two children born to each household, but there are many who do not obey this law; and because of this, they are punished severely if caught. As cruel as it sounds, abortion has prevented more people from being born and depleting resources, and hell knows this war we're at is chopping our numbers by the thousands. But children are still being born, many unwanted and overrunning foster care or living on the streets.

In many animal species, when the population becomes too great, some internal instinct allows the animal to realize it. Thus resulting in beached whales, lemmings leaping off a cliff, and, in species such as the clownfish, gender change. When food is short, a wolf couple will not produce offspring. This is what prevents unneeded animals from over-populating when food and resources are scarce, and allowing the next generation to live on in the best conditions possible.

Perhaps there is some internal impetus driving more and more people to be born or environmentally influenced as gay, bisexual, or transgender. In an effort to save the species, (because, of course, being gay allows you with the perfect method of birth control if you don't want to keep int in your pants) more and more people are becoming GLBT.

It has already been said that the Y chromosome is fading, meaning there are fewer and fewer male children being born every year (I have another theory regarding how this relates to transgender people, but I may post that later). Cloning/gene-splicing/artificial insemination/other technologies will no doubt be serviced to prevent this from occurring completely, but if they were impossible to access, the males would die out, thus means of reproducing would as well. This may be permanent, it may be temporary. As humans evolve, we are going to evolve until we reach our stopping point... and we will one day die out completely, there is no doubt about that. It happens to every species in order to continue the evolution process. But our main problem now is that we're population so quickly, our resources are going out faster than what can be replenished for the next generation.

So the reason many people are turning out as GLBT is because that happy internal thingy is saying, "Hey, there's too many of you. If you want to screw, you're going to have to do it in a way that isn't going to allow you to spawn."

Forgive me for how much this is jumbled up, unorganized, and in other words... just not clear... Its 4 am. I'll try to clarify what I'm trying to say for anybody who responds with questions and such.

That is an old theory that was also proving with rats. There is no doubt that the worlds problems are due to over population. What to do? Start with that as a problem and take steps to reduce population with the least pain as possible over a long time period.

I really think there is something to that theory, but I believe I have heard it somewhere before.   I think you did a great job of articulating it despite the fact of it being 4:00 AM.     If I was a more spiritual soul I would say that it was God's way of controlling the population.  I would think that the people who call themselves religious would be more supportive of GLBT community, because we are responsible for a very harmless and peaceful method of population control.

There are more LBGT for purely
the reason that people
feel free to reveal who they really are.

Any genetic changes that thousands of year, so I'd be surprised we'd see any changes in one or two lifetimes.

I got two reasons why.

1) More people are being born, so it stands to reason the population in sub-groups will increase similarly.
2) There's less stigma attached, so we're starting to get real number values for who's what and why.

And all of this is a very good thing. :)

Those look like the numbers that the American Psychological Association developed about 30 years ago

In 2002, trans-activist Dr. Lynn Conway did her own estimate of the number of post-op MtFs in the united states, and came up with the number of 1 in 2500 males were ALREADY post-op Mtf's

Add to that, the reasonable estimate that for every 1 post-op MtF there are between 5 and 10 males spanning the range from light crossdressing to those in mere days away from their operations, and you can see that the APA numbers are 'way too low.

In the same article, Lynn provides a reason for this discrepancy, and it's political (after Black Wednesday I and II, we know political, don't we?)

Further, at the recent Transgender Day of Remembrance ceremony here in River City, one of the participants  (Dr. Dawnne Woodie, Executive Director of the San Francisco Outreach Program for Transgenders in Crisis (OPTIC)) mentioned that current estimates put the transgender voting block in the U.S. at 3,000,000 (3-million, folks.)

Another reason for the increase in transgenders can be found in the slogan, "Better Things for Better Living, Through Chemistry!"  I'm sure my mother took DES when she was pregnant with me, and DES has been shown to have caused a statistical bump in the numbers of transgenders.  (This fact is only mildly interesting to me.  As Popeye used to say, "I yam what I yam.")

So, what is the true number?

Karen

P.S., stay tuned to the Trans-Ponder.com podcasts -- I captured Dr. Woodie's comments and got a direct interview with her.

Running Renegade,

I have followed some courses in Artificial Intelligence.  One of the things that are looked at is the behavior of insects like ants. Insects are smaller and therefore develop much faster. One could say that the future of mankind can already be seen in the structure of an ant society. Insects also sometimes have different lives. First a caterpillar then a beautiful butterfly ( first a man then a beautiful woman ).

Ants or bees or ... have things like a queen, fighters, specimens for reproduction or for making babies with the queens, scouts, slave takers, ... and so on. Think about the muslim harem. The 'strongest' ( most cruel ) male gets to make babies with many women. Maybe for humans it will be a king making babies with many women rather than a queen having 500 babies which is impossible for humans.

Anyhow, forces tend to maximise in nature. The strong get stronger, the weak get weaker. Another important aspect is also the principle of specialisation. Some specialise in working with the brain, others with their hands. I can not help but noticing that where I work there is more and more homosexuals. Whether that is because of one reason or another, fact is they are there.  I'm not gay. But I would prefer to be female.  Maybe the  gay have sisters or brothers that pass on their own genes so that they don't have to reproduce. I don't know.

I disagree that this is not happening right in front of us right now and that it will be a thing of the future. We are on the very spot of mutation right NOW ! Society starts acting like one big 'body'.  Some individuals are muscle cells, others are for pleasure, others are brain cells, and so on.

I could write a lot more but I don't believe in long texts. Thing is for me personally that I have 2 children. This might look cold perhaps but my job is done, I mean the job of my penis is done. I don't really need this thing any longer. And society does not impose on me to have big muscles neither. So my male hormones are not really needed neither.

Maybe I can change from a caterpillar into a butterfly now ?

Social changes can be fast, physical changes not.
This is a lot of practical and theoritical studies in science and engineering
talking.
As I said, there are more LBGT because the bad social consequences of being one is going down so those that would have stayed repressed for the sake of survival are coming out. There were a lot of "gays" in antiquity because attitudes were looser. Even in native american culture, transgendered were view positively thus there were more.

Keira,

One perhaps very important thing I should add is that I don't have a magic mirror telling me the truth. I'm just guessing. I can be wrong.  What is important in my opinion is that there can be an civilised constructive discussion and I'm happy this is so.

In Europ and in the USA it is is indeed so that there is freedom. In many countries however many things are still oppressed. The russians don't accept this easily. Neither do the muslims.  Obviously if something grows somewhere it will be where it is not oppressed. That's almost like a tax principle.

The roman empire and the greek one have collapsed for known reasons by the way.

My rule is "slowly but surely" for everything.  It's a golden path between the choice of complete change and complete stability.

Something just happened here. My wife said "I have a dream ....". And then I told her "I have a dream also."   ............ "But I'm not going to tell you."  And then she said .......... "Do you want to be a woman ? Look me in the eye and tell me."

And then I said, no I want to be an insect, an ant. I lied.

Kaeren.
