My Mom just turned 74. How do I go about talking to her about transitioning?  She knows that I am a crossdresser and that I am seeing a Therapist ( for cross dressing) I have told her about Me wearing some of Her clothes as a child (elementary school days). The sound from Her wasn't good. Go figure. I told her that my dad caught me cross dressing back in my 20's. she knows I wear makeup some times also ( I use to buy her makeup when I was younger )I know she won't kick Me to the curb.. not sure about My brother but I don't see that happening. I know I need to talk about this with My therapist as this gets closer to reality.

Am I scared for nothing? I think I am!

Thanks Ladies!

I would ask her for her help. Explain your life long dilemma and how it has effected you and how you feel.

You know your mum best so most likely know the best way to approach this and she is most likely going to be really supportive.

That being said my Mother who is also 74 and a wonderful woman has struggled with it so much since I came out to her.
I would encourage you to be gentle with her as it might take a little time for her to process it all. I would try not overload her with information but keep it fairly simple. Don't try and plan it too much other than to make a time to sit down and discuss it.

Hope it all goes really well

Thanks Liz! I keep it as simple as much as I can. I'm trying not to overload her. My therapist asked what have I told her(mom)trying to keep it vague at this point. Soon I will have to be completely honest with Her.

I can't say how she'll react, but the only women I've come out to that was in her 70's was my gran.. And she took it really well, has been just so supportive and kind.. And pushing me to improve quite a lot, always demanding I wear a skirt or dress when I come see her :D

You may be in for a very difficult talk, but going ahead with transitioning there wont be any option but to tell! Perhaps best to do it some time before you blossom fully, so there is some time for her to adjust.

Best of luck Christine <3
