Hello,
MTF here.
I was wondering if any gals on here can tell me the do's and dont's
of hair transplants. And anything thats normally overlooked by beginners like me.

I have a receding hairline not horrible but enough to want to do something about it.
Its a widows peek. i want to fill in the gaps. ON my hairline i have a gap on the left and the right and a clump of  hair in the middle of my hairline.

thanks
in advance

Hi Rachel, I like your name.

I am having hair transplants 3/20/2017 by doctor Cooley in Charlotte N.C.. Dr. Cooley provides ATP post op to nourish the graphs for 5 days until the blood supply to the graph is established.

I had FFS in September 2016. I had a forehead lowering among other things. I was advised to have the forehead lowering first then hair transplants 6 months later. Reason is if you had hair transplants then forehead lowering you would be losing valuable hair graphs.

I am post op and have very low T so I do not need to take any medications like finasteride or topicals for DHT.

So from your experience :

I should probably find a reputable FFS ( Facial Feminization surgeon ) and talk with them about me and what i want and what they think is right for me. makes sense for sure.

What are the cost from what You have experienced as far per hair transplant etc. :-)

I know costs are regional and per insurance / no insurance etc.

but just wondering if you could share.

Thanks

I am having 3000 graphs and my work is paying through extended trans benefited through Aetna. My cost is $0. I pay for food and airfare. I think for 3000 hairs it is $4.00 per hair for FUT.

Rachel   :)

I have had 2 rounds of follicle transplants from a strip taken from the back of my head.

I am delighted with the results and had my second round completed in November last year. They are heading into the six month mark and I am still getting more growth. This has been stimulated by the implants and the HRT.

One thing that my surgeon glossed over was the stage that happens just after the hair is implanted. It breaks off, which I expected, and begins to grow a new hair. In some cases the hair has difficulty penetrating the scalp. In order for the hair to grow it needs sebum(thick gunky horrible stuff) and lots of it. If the hair is trapped with just the very tip sticking out a "lump" will form underneath the scalp and this will eventually erupt. Sometimes this is a very easy process and the gunk comes out and it heals in a day or so but sometimes it creates a mess and leaves you with a sore bleeding lump on your head and gunk in your hair. Because these form under pressure they tear the skin so are painful and take longer to heal.

For me this period lasted about 8 weeks the first round and hasn't stopped yet with the second. Every week or second week I am still getting new follicles erupting. Which also means there are still more  growth coming through I don't feel, as it seems only a small percentage will erupt this way the rest I don't even feel. It feels like them all erupting when it happens.

Keep your scalp clean!!

Enjoy the results...and yes there is a picture coming in the next few days so you can see for yourself, remembering I had a balding horseshoe effect with a light "skunk strip" in the middle of my scalp to work with in the beginning.

If you have a look at my picture taken today my hair looks a little light on the left hand side but what you can't see is all the new growth around that area, give it another year and I suspect it will be different again. The camera flash is never flattering to your hair especially if you are a little thin.

Hope this gives you a better idea bearing in mind that I had a horseshoe of baldness on either side of my scalp and a skunk tail in the middle.....
