Pre-HRT Blood Tests show elevated liver enzymes

Hi, all!

I'm new here, so I hope I'm not opening a topic that's already existing - I looked in archives, but most topics seem to be about elevated liver enzymes AFTER starting HRT, not before.

Part of the pre-T examination in my country is a blood panel which shows slightly elevated liver enzymes. This is not the first time I've heard that diagnosis, although when it was first noticed a few years ago during a regular work-mandated physical exam, no call to action was given, so I considered it to be just an observation.

My blood was taked on December 2nd, 2016, I only just got results last Friday (February 17th, 2017). Part of the letter is also a date for my next appointment on which I am supposed to sign a letter of informed consent to start HRT, but the date is in January 2018! That's almost a year from now!

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Could the elevated liver enzymes be the reason they put the date for my HRT so far in the future? Does anyone know what the course of treatment is for this type of situation?

I am sorry if this question is either repetitive or too specific, I just really don't know where else to look for information and I am freaking out a bit at the prospect of waiting another year to start HRT.

Thanks in advance.

It may or may not be anything to worry about but I think only your Dr can answer the questions  you have.

Mine have come back elevated twice in past years.  It turns out that both times the blood tests were taken just a few hours after I had worked out, once running and once lifting weights.  The results were normal after a retest a couple of days later.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Test result ranges are average or normal ranges. Some people remain healthy even thought they have a number that's out of the normal range however it should be watched and your pattern determined. If the numbers remain the same, it's not a problem. You should have a discussing with a doctor as soon as possible just to be sure there isn't a problem, to verify the cause if any and to continue monitoring the level. As for why you next appoint is so far off, you should ask them. By they time you have the next appointment, you should have another blood test so your records are up to date.

I had elevated liver enzymes/albumin etc. before they signed me off on T but they didn't delay for it.

They said it was down to lifestyle and diet which if I didn't change would give me heart complications further down the line. I've been fixing that since T and feel a lot better, though I haven't had a liver function test since the last one.

I would schedule another appointment with your doctor to discuss the blood results and see if they found anything of concern that would restrict you from starting HRT. I would also look into your countries laws about starting hormones because some do require you to have a "waiting period" to mull over your big life changing irreversible, my god you're a monster decision. <-- sarcasm.
Laws are good but the people who make them are not always well informed. when it comes to trans stuff, people think that if they make us wait we'll change our minds and go back to being Cis... I think this might be what is happening in your case. I don't think there is any medical reason to making you wait such a long time without some kind of "hey change your diet, exercise more and take these pills" kind of discussion.
