I don't really know where to look for reviews of any of these places, but I've trusted Middlesex hospital with other medical problems that I've had and they've always been exemplary.  While searching for a therapist I noticed that they actually have a suite of transgender specialists, and I was wondering if they looked well versed in trans care, I'm not experienced in looking for this yet. :P

At any rate, website: https://middlesexhospital.org/our-services/hospital-services/transgender-medicine/transgender-services

Better yet if anyone's heard anything about them or used them, that would be great.  There seem to be a number of specialists concentrated in the New Haven and Hartford areas as well, but they're quite a bit further from my location...

At the moment I'm only looking for a therapist to help me make sense of things before I jump in headlong, but it seems likely that I'll be transitioning and it certainly won't hurt to be on the lookout for other services.

edit--
Now that I click on some of the portraits of surgeons, their bios don't mention any specialization in trans folks, probably better to go to Mass for that... But the endo and others do have a mention of transgender specialties.

Daniellekai,

Communication among therapists is much better these days than it was just a few years ago. I feel confident that most all therapists do understand trans issues to the point of being able to confirm that your feelings are genuine. Just be honest and open. They do understand our situation. When or if you decide you want hormones, they can write an approval letter.

I do have one suggestion, look for a therapist that lets you speak for yourself. Avoid anyone who may promote or deny your true feelings. And above all, know yourself and be proud of yourself!

Just an update on this, since I decided I am ready, called them, they apparently had seen transgender patients in their practices, but felt there was a dearth of true resources for trans people around so they started this little coalition of therapists, doctor's, surgeons, etc about 3 months ago, very new thing. So I guess I'll be the guinea pig for the wiki. I didn't get an appointment, but the therapist called me back asking me to attend a support group meeting tomorrow, had to get it off from work, but I'm going to go.
