Hello ! My name is Renee ( Birth name plan to keep it ). I'm 19 years young I've been out as trans since 2014 ( around 16 ) I was ready to start hormones by then, but i had to get a job, and i got busy with school.. Basically What I'm trying to say is that I was stalling because i was afraid of what everyone would have to say about me. (I've been out as gay since like the 2nd grade, but everyone accepted me lol). Now i think my mom might think it's a phase, since I've gone through a few lol, but she is extremely supportive of everything I do and I know she'll be there with me through everything. But the thing is, I'm getting older, I grew like 3 inches (5'11 Yikes), I'm starting to grow facial hair, my body getting bigger, voice getting deeper etc and its making me feel weird ( Even tho i did start puberty really late. I am so ready to start now, and I DEEPLY regret not transitioning back then. Now the endocrinologist that I used to go to doesn't accept my insurance anymore (Medicaid UnitedHealthCare) and I'm so desperate. I really want to start hormones NOW. Anyone have any idea how to go about it here in Miami ? Is it relatively cheap ? Any help would be very appreciated !
Thank You.

Renee,

I live in Miami and there are at least a hundred physicians who specialize in HRT. Most physicians promote their practice as anti-aging or wellness treatments.

However, for a cross gender hormone treatment, you must have a letter from your psychological counselor who specializes in gender issues, before any good physician will prescribe HRT.

Just google "transgender resources in Miami" and take a look at who is near by and will take your insurance.

Wait, what? My doctor is good, and she didn't make me see a psychological counselor or get a letter before prescribing hormones. Perhaps you should have said "some doctors" rather than "any good physician"?

Hugs, Devlyn

Thank you all for the replies !
Btw, I do have several visits with a lgbtq center(The Alliance) over the past 2 years, so if they gave a note for an endocrinologist, would it count the same as a therapist ?
I will definitely look into care resources here, thank you !

You can get hormones by going to any doctor that does informed consent if you want to. I did that process and got approved for HRT immediately. googling "florida hrt doctors" gave me some results for doctors that might be willing to do that. You could call a few of them and ask if they do informed consent for hrt.

Beyonce,

This should be good enough. Strictly speaking, the therapist signing the note should be licensed in Florida and have at least a Masters degree in an appropriate field.
