FTM being legal father on birth certificate?

My wife and I are pregnant (thru a sperm bank) and I was wondering if I have any worries as far as the birth certificate goes? I'm located in MN. We have been married for a couple years. I had my name changed over 15 years ago, my BC was changed after top surgery 3 years ago, but I never changed it through the social security office. I honestly forgot until recently.
I was doing some research about birth certificates for the child, and got a lot of mixed answers. If anyone has any knowledge on this it would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have legal training so take it my thoughts for what they are worth. If your state recognizes same sex weddings there should be no problem If your state allows birth certificate updates, there should also be no problem. One exception I can think of is you might be listed as co parents instead of husband and wife. One of the primary reasons for a birth certificate is to determine who is responsible for the care of the child and as such it's likely you would be listed.

Your best bet would be to consult a lawyer and find out exactly what the laws are in your state so you can make sure the birth certificate is properly filled out.

MN is pretty liberal as far as stuff like this goes. I imagine like Dena said, they've probably had their share of same sex partners having children and wanting both parents on the certificate. So there will probably be a slot for parent 1 and parent 2. I do have a friend that has two kids with his wife (also through some kind of donor sperm) in MN, so I will check and see.

Asked my friend, answer is: YES. As long as you are legally considered male by the state prior to the birth of the baby, you can be listed as the father. I would update with Social Security and do your driver's license if you haven't already. But with the birth certificate already done it sounds like you shouldn't have many problems.
