Advice on Dr. Di Maggio's qualifications?

Hey all,

I'm looking into FFS (and breast augmentation depending on price) with Dr. Di Maggio. I'm currently awaiting a consultation.

Can anyone tell me anything about Di Maggio's qualifications? I'm particularly interested if anyone knows if his listed "Performance in Scientific Societies" pertains to simple participatory board memberships, or if it relates to certification by an accredited group of experts.

I was recently turned off going to Facial Team in Spain after discovering that most of their participation in medical societies was little more than an annual paid membership. Dr. Di Maggio looks to be more qualified and I would like to know if anyone knows anything about the various societies he belongs to and what that states about his skills and experience. I'll list the medical societies below.

Do feel free to add any other Di Maggio related advice, I'm very eager to know more and plan my trip.

Can you please elaborate on Facial Team surgeons' qualifications?

I am considering Facial Team; however, I do not think they are as aggressive as other surgeons.

The only thing I am unsure about is what to expect in Buenos Aires, I have read that it is a relatively safe city as long as you are smart about it but my Spanish is about as rusty as it gets.

You'll do fine.  I am an English speaker and was in BA almost 4 weeks.  It is a very large, cosmopolitan international city.  I never had any issues with walking around city central.

Thank you!  Btw, how did you handle money and such.  I read about the blue dollar exchanges and whatnot, although it is somewhat it seems somewhat convoluted and shady.  I was thinking of taking USD but not sure how to handle it to get the best exchange rate and what not, while avoiding the scams.

The Facial Team surgeons all studied oral maxillo-facial surgery rather than plastic surgery. They do have some training or specialization in craniofacial surgery but it is not a specialty of theirs. Also, only one of their surgeons (Dr. Bellinga the nose doctor) is qualified by a certified to a board recognised by the EUMS (European Union of Medical Surgeons) whereas neither of the founders (Dr. Simon and Dr. Capitan) belong to these international specialist boards.

Some of their membership to societies are not even based on skill or qualifications, they only require an annual membership fee. They have performed over 2,500 operations but it does beg the question as to why they do not belong to and contribute to European medical societies.

One of the only groups their belong to that does require certification of skill (EAFPS) is based off of an American group (ABFPRS) which is a medical society that doesn't even belong to the local American group ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialists). In other words their "European" society is not part of the widely recognised European board of specialists and is instead based off an American group which is likewise outside of its own nation's specialist societies.

A lot of other things that all add up to having rather peculiar qualifications. If they are as good as they claim, why are they not more internationally recognized by other specialists?
