How to tell my mother I want HRT?

Hi everybody! :)

So at the moment I'm debating the best way to tell my mother that I want to start HRT sooner (hopefully at some point this year) rather than later (after I finish my schooling in my mid twenties). Last time I talked to my mother about my transition plans, I had given her the impression that HRT may not even be a possibility at all and even if it was it would be way down the road. This was in part because I thought I could handle existing through the dysphoria for a few years just so long as I knew who I am, but it was also because I knew you she would respond negatively at the time (when I came out to her as trans she responded with a very indignant "Well I certainly HOPE you don't intend to take hormones!"). It has become apparent to me that living through the dysphoria would be living through a hell similar to my entire teenage development thus far. I don't think I can live through that. I think waiting may be more than I can handle. Living every day and seeing all around me that which I can't be is agony.

I know that only I can tell how best to tell my mother. But does anyone have any suggestions on how to not make a confrontation out of it?

Any and all advice would be appreciated. :)
xoxo

I would suggest an indirect route. Start with a gender therapist first and then you will have a professional to back up your words. In addition the therapist will be able to explain the need to your mother better. Yes you might be able to do informed consent but if you do so, you can't use the argument that you have explored other options. There could be therapy available through your school and if money is an issue, some therapist work on a sliding scale where what they charge is based on your income.
