I think it just comes down to a fear of what is new and unknown.

It kinda depends. on the one hand, a life without sin, without screw ups, isn't possible we all have to constantly try to be better people. one the other hand, a lot of the hate comes from people being over judgemental and trying to feel morally superior(read sin of pride).

in the end it's much easier to point out someone else's issues then to face you own.
