What is up with these black hairs?

80% of my facial hairs turned gray years ago. I had laser to remove what black hairs were left in order to lessen the electrolysis pain as much as possible.
The laser was completed over a year ago and did get rid of all the dark hairs. Until now! I've been doing electrolysis continuously for the last two years and am getting close to the end but over the last 2-3 weeks more and more black hairs are appearing. This morning it looks like all of the remaining hairs have turned black! I'm even seeing black hairs in areas where there were no dark hairs before the laser treatments.

What the H____ is going on? Anyone seen anything like this?

This is not unusual. Those dark hairs that are showing now may have been active several years ago but fell out and went dormant on their own. Hair naturally goes through cycles where they are dormant. Laser and/or electrolysis can only treat hairs that are active. It is also possible that some previously vellous peach fuzz hairs became terminal hair as is normal with age.

I have also been told by four different electrolysis technitions that sometimes hairs are stressed enough by laser to turn gray and when electrolysis is done, the added blood flow during healing can bring color back to the grayed hairs. I have been experiencing this for the past six months and it is driving me crazy. Good luck! - Anne
