Teens confused enough without gender issues

There's never a dull moment in California. Two weeks ago, we learned about the new California Student Civil Rights Act, SB 777, that was signed into law by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The law, which takes effect on Jan. 1, clears up inconsistencies under the existing law that protects students from discrimination "based on actual or perceived disability, gender, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or associated with a person who has any of these characteristics."

"I did not wake up one morning and feel African American. I just was and no matter how I might say I feel Asian today, I am still African American... Some LGBT students might have experienced misidentification at birth, but for others, I think it is a choice."

I suppose she didn't wake up one day and feel female either. She just was. Same with us.
