How to hide a receding hairline?

So my current situation is like this: I have long hair, long enough to form a short ponytail, but with pretty much no bangs. In my current everyday hair style, I pretty much comb all my hair back and that's about it.

Now I'm looking for a way to look a bit more feminine... sadly, my hairline is already receding a bit, especially in the "corners" of my face (we Germans call them "Geheimratsecken"). At a local support group, a lady who is a bit further down the transition road than I am recommended getting extensions, but I'm a little bit weirded out by the idea of getting somebody else's hair onto my head, and also I'm a bit afraid that would uncloset me a lot faster than I currently like - I'm still experimenting and trying to find out what I'm comfortable in.

So... does anybody else have any ideas what kind of hairstyle I should be looking at? I suppose I'm not the first trans lady to have that problem...

I am assuming that you don't want to cut your hair. That leave wearing it without a pony tail parted down the middle or with a pony tail but tied very loose and it drapes across your forehead. You can look at hair finder and you might find a style that you are comfortable with.

No, cutting my hair is totally fine as long as I don't end up bald (something my first Google search on this topic actually suggested).

Problem with hairfinder is, I can't really tell which of the haircuts on display there are actually "compatible" with my hair, i. e. if I actually have all the hair needed for a certain cut. And I'm really inexperienced with hairstyles, never cared too much about them in the past. (If you have any hints about how to find something fitting me on hairfinder, I'd gladly take your advice, though! I already saw a link to it in another post by you while browsing and making sure to not ask duplicate questions, but... like I said. No idea what is possible with my hair and what isn't.)

Hair styles are very personal. Some people like a short cut, some a medium cut and some long. Is your hair curly or straight? Do you want something that's easy to maintain or do you like working with your hair? What is the shape of your face? A long face like mine requires something with volume to round out your face. A round face can wear most anything. I got tired of perms so I have moved to a wedge cut much like Dorthy Hamil made popular. It took me years to figure on what to replace the perm with because it worked so well. Picking a hair cut isn't easy and it's more difficult if you have never seen the person.
