Being transgender like buying a new Nissan SUV..suddenly you see them everywhere

A study of millennials found that they readily see themselves as being on the gender spectrum, rather than binary.

Once I became aware that I'm a non-transitioning, nonbinary, panromantic, asexual, partial transmale (Whew! That's a lot of labels) I realized transgender people were already everywhere, but I hadn't noticed.

1. My favorite aunt, now diseased, was partnered with a transmale
2. My youngest sister and daughter both identifed as bi nonbinary after they stopped to think about it. My daughter now attends Native American ceremonies as a two spirit honorary shaman
3. My ex-husband came out last year as nonbinary female and is seeing a VA gender counselor for transitioning purposes.
4. I have been in Thailand since 2010 and it seems that being nonbinary and bisexual is the norm here.

And that's a good thing, I say.

This will mean that more people will have a better understanding of what transgender means; there will be more acceptance of transgender people and those are in the process of transitioning; hopefully this will lead to less discrimination and more acceptance and integration as part of normal human diversity.

All of the above will mean less painful experiences, because people are more likely to identify as transgender much earlier in life and obtain relevant treatment, which in turn means relationships will be entered into with both partners being open about their gender identity.

It's all good news.
