I contacted SelectQuote to see what my options are for purchasing a 500K term life policy for 15 years at age 54. As part of this I disclosed I'm transgender. Only one carrier was even willing to offer a quote, for $330 a month. I am literally in the same category as diabetics and people who have had bypass surgery. Absent being transgender, given the fact I'm in good health, my premiums would be around $120.

Has anyone here been able to get good rates, while acknowledging you're transgender? Any insights would be appreciated.

You might try contacting United of Omaha Live insurance company/Mutual of Omaha company. They continue to bombard me with adds for life life insurance because my medicare supplemental is with them and my roommate who was also transgender had a policy with them. She was in good health at the time she took the policy out but her policy had a limit of about 80k and it seems to me the rates were around $88 a month.

You may wish to keep in mind that most policies would only pay a direct blood relative, or spouse. They might tell you that you may list anyone you wish as an heir, but then the fine print may tell you otherwise. Depending on whom you would want to collect in the event of death, you may want to shop around.
