I got my ADHD diagnose 15 years ago. The psychiatrist said I have "typical boy ADHD". I was up in every tree and lamppost as a kid. Climbed everywhere. Hyperactive deluxe. Adventure seeker. Did a lot of stupid stuff. My dad beat me up, but you can't bet the ADHD out of anyone.

Anyone else have ADHD? And did the doctor say anyting like my doctor said?

We didn't have ADHD when I grew up. You were eight, you acted like you were eight, everyone knew you were eight and acting like you were eight. Everyone knew you'd grow out of it and no one, NO ONE thought a handful of drugs was called for.

I got my diagnose as an adult. I don't have meds for ADHD, only tourettes. I stay away from stimulants because I have a history of substance abuse.

As a kid I was diagnosed with ADHD, all cause I'm a smart ass with a short attention span.

edit: had to add the laughing face!
I'm not out, I'm not on E, unless things change I doubt I ever will be.

I was almost never around doctors as a child. No diagnoses of any kind for me back then, though I'm sure I had a few problems.

ADHD was probably not one of them, but I was always up to no good, climbing, fighting, making things, and being outdoors. Not sure there's anything especially odd about it for a boy.

Maybe newer generations of parents just expect their kids to sit quiet in a corner and dose them up with drugs if they don't. I've seen people complaining about 2 and 3 year olds in a kindergarten acting just like kids do, far as I know.

My parents called me perpetual motion when I was little. I self medicated with food and that fixed it.

I self medicated with alcohol when I was 15 and up. That made me calm. But it's not a good medicine.

They tried to diagnose me at a very early age and my mother was having NO part of that, thankfully. I probably still have some sort of ADHD problem, but my ADHD issues were never troublesome per se, I just had trouble focusing on schoolwork because I wanted to stand or dance or something. So I dunno really. I'm just kind of a high-energy individual with increasingly bad attention issues.

My hyperactivity is pretty much gone now. I guess you mature late. Hyperactivity was my no 1 issue. I still have a hard time to read long texts because I forget what I was reading because my brain starts to think about other things and I have to start all over again.

Neither way is productive. I was being sarcastic too. Thing is, I never took up serious drinking. I did get a lot of speeding ticket. Lost my license twice. I think I've gotten 15-18 tickets in my life.

Wow! I have never had a ticket. It's been close a couple of times but the police just waved to me to slow down.

I guess it is different rules in our countries. If you speed too much you will lose your licence for 2 years and have to take it again. From scratch.

After the second loss, I had to take my written and road test over again. This is after having had my license for 6 years. After that, I got tickets once in a while. I've gotten one in five years since moving to AZ and got four in Iowa in 9 years. The rest were in NY. The thing about Iowa is that every small town has a cop and they use speed traps as a way to generate revenue. It's so bad that the state doesn't count two tickets a year against your license if they are under 10mph over the speed limit. I actually got a ticket for 5mph over in one of those Podunk towns. The key, at least where I live now, is to keep it under 10mph over. Doesn't mean I don't speed sometimes. It's east to beat the ton on a motorbike.

Yeah I got the Trifecta lucky me:
ADHD - mostly just attention issues now days.
Tourette's (never spell it right) (slight tongue twitch lol)
Dyslexia - well anyone who reads one of my posts knows I still struggle with this :)

I can't say I enjoyed school but I'm sure I gave my teachers hell :)

It worked out in the end because it meant I was able to access extra funding which paid for my Cisco Certifications that got me my job :) that otherwise I couldn't have done.

P-doc says it's from anxiety, but I can't focus on anything and I often pace is or run around the neighborhood.

I got a similar diagnosis and reaction from my mother, though I don't view that as a good thing. I dismissed it for awhile too, because many of my issues at school were because of my gender non-conformity, though I do have trouble focusing on things others want me to focus on. I also do have trouble shutting down at night and self medicating with alcohol is the only way I've found to have some semblance of a normal sleep pattern. My mind just keeps going, even if my body does not.

I wasn't aware until recently that people with ADHD hyperfocus also, but it seems to be common. I certainly hyperfocus on certain things I find interesting or important. Now that I'm well past school, I really have trouble staying with jobs that make me try to focus on things I find unimportant or uninteresting.
