Hi I'm a 15 year old male and I think I might be transgender, but I can't decide whether to come out or what to do about it! I've always wanted to be a girl since I was about 3 or 4 when I'd dress up with my sister. About 5 years ago I started wearing girls clothing in secret whenever I could at home but that's as far as it has gone at this point. I'd love to be able to dress like a girl constantly, by there are things I'm not sure about and things I worry about. I'll provide more details in the future if needed. Thanks.

Hi!

Welcome to the site.

Support for transgender youth is fortunately becoming more common, with great care available. I would suggest trying to find a counselor or therapist to approach about finding care and helping you with your questions as a first step.

Depending on where in the world you are, there may be a mental health provider associated with your school that you could talk to in private. Alternatively, there may be a local LGBT center with a youth program that can connect you with a gender therapist who could help you out.  These folks should be able to help you work through your thoughts in a nonjudgmental fashion, helping you to be comfortable with yourself no matter what your path in life turns out to be.

I applaud your insight into yourself, and your seeking out some assistance.  (Life now is so much better than when I was your age 50 years ago, when we had to ride dinosaurs to school in the snow, uphill both ways....)

I hope you feel welcome here.

Once again, welcome to Susan's. Look around, ask questions and join in.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

It's a difficult choice, but the sooner you start transition (or at least stop male puberty), the better and easier your transition and new life will be. Try to get your parents approval to seek a psychologist (maybe without revealing reasons for it?), or talk to your parents... If you do it, you will definitely know where they stand, and could plan accordingly. If they support, you are lucky. If not - they won't kick you out of the house until you finish school and get some job, but you will know you'd need to learn to be strong and financially independent.

The longer you hide it from them, the more difficult it will be.
