UK Girl - Recently Post op - Needs advice on Scar Cream / Treatment

Hi All,
I recently  had surgery over in Canada with Dr Brassard.
I am having difficulty trying to get hold of cream to massage into  my scars.

Could anyone recommend anything in particular? the booklet we get given to take home says massage the scars with Vitamin E cream or something  Silicone  based but not oil. All of the chemist's I visit tell me to see my GP as it needs to  be  unscented ??

My GP says she has nothing Listed on her system that  would be appropriate and as for vitamin E cream,she's never ever prescribed it for scars.
Your  help  would really be appreciated.

I bought some dermatix silicon gel from Brassard's office when I was there. You might want to look for that.

When I lived on a farm our horse got tangled in a wire fence and really mangled his legs. We gave the trainer a tube of Horseman's Dream to treat the wound. The horse healed fine and hair even grew back in.
The trainer later told us he had to stop using it as his wife complained his hands were getting soft than hers. We still use it occasionally for topical wounds and scarring is reduced.

Dermatix is expensive isn't it ! wow. I'm not going to quiblle though.. it's too important.

Looked up the Horsemans dream cream, if all else fails..............   :-)

And yes ,prices are far cheaper on ebay!

Kelo-cote is available from Amazon.

I ordered kelo-cote from Amazon for use on my tummy tuck scars.  A bit weird smearing silicone on yourself, but it is proven to aid recovery and appearance.  A little goes a long way!

I think I bought it for $30 for a small tube. And that is enough for me, there's still leftover that I just gave to my friend for her c-section scars.

I'm using cicaplast and massaging the scars while applying the cream, similar to what I was doing with the BA.

For scar reduction, I`ve successfully used "Bio-Oil" and "E45 Cream", though not of course, concomitantly! Both are available over the counter in British Chemist`s shops, or from price-reduction shops such as 'Home Bargains'.

The Bio-Oil is typically advised for stretch marks and C-Section scar reduction, so is likely to be perfectly safely used on recently post-GRS tissue......I`ve found it to be eminently effective, both on my revision scars and the several decades-old original GRS (keloid) scars; especially, when used over a sufficient period.

I'm also recently postop and just started using Dermatix silicone gel on the wounds that are ready for it (healed with no stitching left).

My GP was able to prescribe it for me which is lucky as it is expensive stuff at £30 for 15g or £60 for 60g.

Even though my surgery was also carried out abroad (Thailand) the NHS will still help with aftercare.
My GP is monitoring my recovery and as with everything thus far he has been absolute superstar doing everything in his power to help me (blood tests, estrogen, painkillers for electrolysis etc).

As I understand it the silicone gels are considered the best and if I didn't get the prescription I would still have got it even with the price tag.

Vitamin E does very little if anything
Bio oil can allegedly cause discolouration

I would suggest asking your doctor specifically for 60g of Dermatix Gel and she should be able to find it for you on their system.
Even my own surgery accidentally prescribed me the gel sheeting the first time but easily fixed.

I just had top surgery on August 1.  Have been using "Scar Away" since then- the surgeon's recommendation.  So far I am really impressed.
