Thank you girls for your support :)

I just wanted to be clear about the girl working there. It's not that she's a gossip, or that she's nosey or that she's not good at her job. That's not what I'm trying to say. Part of her job (much like yours was Dena) is scanning through all the documents, meaning that there is a chance she will see something. As my real name is both unusual and a name she is familiar with, it is likely she is going to see it when she deals with the paperwork. That then leaves her with a rather big secret and would make things very difficult for both her and I.

Furthermore, the doctor who rang me back was simply saying there is a chance that as the family friend works within the surgery, they can't control possibilities as much as they would like. That's why they recommended I try another surgery. They are more than willing to help me should I decide to go with it anyway.

I just wanted to clear that up a bit with everyone because they were actually very nice and very helpful :)

Congrats on your first steps Hannah but be prepared for lots of red tape, my doctor tried to talk me out of it but hopefully your gp will be better, just keep on there case all the time that way you will get results.

That's not ideal but in reality probably a good thing to wait until you're back at uni. I can't remember off the top of my head but you're about the same age as me aren't you (I'm 23 on Saturday)? For your peace of mine I'd wait the 6 or so weeks to go to another GP as it's a small drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of life. I think I had to wait 20 months when I was first referred to the service and then when I decided I had conformed enough to what they wanted it was about 18 months. Luckily things have changed lately and it's easier to fit in with their requirements and the GIC won't make you start the RLE all over again when you walk through the door and they take deed poll, change of gender role at home/work/uni etc into consideration on the first appointment if that's what you want to happen. It's much easier to set your own pace with them now than it was even just a few years ago.

Best of luck!! Xx

Oh happy birthday for Saturday!! ;) Yeah I'm 21 so not far off and I agree, waiting until I'm at uni is probably best. My only worry is that my GP in Nottingham (uni) will only be for this next year, meaning when I'm top of the waiting list, they won't be my gp anymore :/ I don't know how that might affect things :(

Thanks, only a few hours to go :D

I'd look at it like this, get the GP in Notts to refer you and then it gives you 8-9 months until the end of the uni year to work out how/if you are going to come out to the family if that's something that could be on the cards within that timeframe anyway.

When your case is picked up by the GIC you'll be CC'd into any correspondence and then if you changed GP you would simply phone the GIC to let them know (they should know this anyway, but it helps of you let them know) and then when you get the letter for your appointment you just go. In England things are different, but in Wales there are no GIC's so iirc everyone goes to Charring Cross as they have a contract to take all the Welsh patients referred to them. Sometimes you may be able to choose yourself, from experience I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with going to Charring Cross should that be where you end up. Just be aware if you do end up going there they take forever and a day to answer the phones!!!
