I had changed my name last year. Tonight I tried to co-sign my daughters student loan. I was denied. I am a ghost with no credit history. Has anyone else had this happen to them and how did you get your old credit history associated with your new name.

I didn't have this problem because my entire credit history was built starting in the middle of RLE with my first credit card. As for you, start out with Anual Credit Report and you will need to contact each of the credit reporting agencies and have them correct your records. This site will allow you to pull your credit history once a year but you can do one credit agency once every 4 months on rotation if you desire it. They track different thing. One tracks home loans while another tracks credit card history. You might want to contact the reporting companies before you pull your credit history then after they are done, pull your report to make sure everything was done correctly. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

I went back and checked to see who handles what.

Trans Union has the home equity loan and credit card history so this would be personal loans based on your name.
Experian has home equity, credit card and the final home loan
Equifax has all the mortgage history and detailed credit card history.

The link you should look at on the Annual Credit Report web site is this one

They all synchronize their records once in a while. Probably you can send them your name change paperwork and they will be happy to update their records

You need to make sure that you have changed your name on all of your credit accounts so that they can report your changed name to the credit agencies. It takes about 3 months for everything to update. It will require you to send a copy of your court order to all of your creditors.
