Hi sisters,

I will be one month post op tomorrow and I talked to someone today about her dilation routine. She told me that she has been using #4 dilator since one month post op and it got me thinking that I might go too slow?

I'm still using #2 dilator (27mm and I dilate 2 times a day, 40 mins each.) It's still kinda tight. Is it possible to lose girth? I'm meeting my doctor tomorrow but I still wanna ask you guys anyway.

I won't be post op for a month--God willing, since I worry something is going to happen and destroy my dream. But, yes, I think it is possible to lose girth, if by girth you mean your vagina narrowing and closing. That is definitely possible. My surgeon--Dr. Rumer--said dilation is everything and follow the instructions to the T, but if you can dilate more, do so. If you're closing, then you need to dilate more. I thought it was four times a day for 15 minutes each. But I have not got instructions left, but the doctor definitely said it can close up. Moreover, she said no sex within three months or you could really damage it. Your vagina has to heal and be kept open. I would up your dilation schedule. What they tell you to do is the minimum; do the maximum you can do. That is what will keep you open.

* Thanks Obama! Seriously, without him (and PA Gov. Wolf!) and expanded Medicaid, I would never accumulated the $30,000 needed to to afford surgery.

Depending on the surgery, at a month 3-4 times a day should be more like it. Back off only if it feels like you can. Difficult for me to remember but I think I was supposed to be 3 times a day for 20 minutes each. Work and exhaustion got it the way and on week days I was only able to get 2 in a day. The evening dilation I am not sure about because more than once I fell asleep with the dilator still in me.  Fortunately I didn't lose anything but after losing my job at a month and a half, I returned to the proper dilation schedule.

#2 is plenty for a month out. I was able to start using #2 and held off on #3 until 3 months. I feel now like I could advance to #4 (I'm 16 weeks post op now) but I also trust the surgeon's instructions to wait 3 months between shifting up a size as safe.

Right now I'm more focused on regaining some depth that is lost which seems to be happening. I'm deeper than most natal women (but not deeper than my gf) and so it's all fine.
