Hello Everyone,

My name is Alice, but I usually go by Alli. I've known I would have preferred to be a woman since I was in middle school, but I started to identify as a transgender woman when I was 17.  I'm 21 now, and I've identified myself as a woman online for the past four years.

My current SO was my best friend when I realized I was trans, and I came out to her shortly after. She had already known about my gender issues and supported me from the start. The only unfortunate thing is that we're in a long distance relationship and only see each other every few months.

Progress regarding my actual physical transition are going a lot slower. I haven't started HRT, so the only progress I've really made is growing out my hair and making my voice more feminine.

The reason I've decided to come here is in the hope of having a safer place to discuss my transgender identity. Tumblr and Twitter have become toxic environments for me because many innocuous discussions about trans women lead to harassment from radical feminists. The rhetoric they spread has been really harmful to me lately, because it's always in my head and I keep using it to demean my identity. I just needed to get away from it.

I'm glad to join your community.

Welcome to you, we hope you enjoy your stay here.

I'm also in a long-distance relationship, however unlike you we've never met up. One day, but it might be a while since we're both trying to transition (me being FTM and her MTF)

Anyway, welcome.

Hello Alli, welcome to Susan's!

I am also MTF and started formal voice training (weekly meetings with a speech pathologist) a month ago.  Voice and permanent facial hair removal are two topics that require quite a bit of time for transition.  I started HRT two weeks ago.

A supportive SO is great in so many ways - you are both very fortunate to have this relationship.

We always provide the following information to new members.  As you have discovered some sites can get pretty bad - Susan's is determined to be a welcoming, supportive place for all transgender people, and also welcomes memberships for SO's.

A Cautionary Note:
This is a public forum so please remember when posting that The Internet Never Forgets, and the various web crawlers and archival sites out there may retain information that you post.

We cannot ensure that any information you share on the site will be protected from public view and/or copying or reproduction. This warning is also listed in the Terms of Service listed below.

If you give out personal information on Susan's you are responsible for any consequence.

I also want to share some links with you. They include helpful information and the rules that govern the site.  It is important for your enjoyment of the site to take a moment to go through them

Welcome to Susan's Place. We do our best to provide a safe and friendly environment here but we are a bit short staffed at times and might miss something. If we do, there is a report to moderator button on every post that you may use report problem posts with. Don't worry about making a mistake as we use the button to document our actions as well but sometimes we aren't sure of a post so some of our reports are closed without action. Everybody is welcome as long as they follow the TOS. The discussions cover both the binary and non binary so it's hard to imagine you coming up with something that hasn't been previously discussed.

"Needed a new community" .....and you found one!  :)

Welcome to Susan's Place, Alli! You can dump those other sites in the trash can outside. You don't need them, you're here now and part of the family. See you around the site!

Hugs, Devlyn

This place is a largely radical and troll free zone.  Welcome.

Read the TOF.  There is no tolerance of bad behavior on Susan's.  Very rarely, as Dena notes, someone will get a bit edgy, usually without ill intent, will be reined in.  Life goes on in a most civil fashion on this forum.  You will find some of the most genuine and helpful people in the online universe here.

Hi Alli,

I'm Laurie, MtF also. I'm an unofficial greeter here and would like to welcome you to Susan's Place. (Hug) Come right on in and get comfortable because if you are looking for a helpful supportive, friendly site to reside then you found it.
I've been here for a little while and I've jumped right in and seem to have made myself a part of the neighborhood. I've found a lot of support and good advice here along with some quality hand holding when I've needed it. I made quite a few friends here too. I have even had the extreme good fortune of meeting a good number as I tend to get around occasionally. I hope to be meeting more. Take my word for it if you behave within the TOS and keep what you say civil then you will have no problems making friends here. Call on us to help with concerns you may have or even if you just need a bit of hand holding.

We are here to help support all those in our community.

Hugs,
   Laurie

Welcome to the site disenchanted.

You were trying to get support from Twitter? Good Lord!  That's a war zone for folks like us.
I'm sure you'll like this a lot better.
