Also, numeric sizes of skirts, dresses, pants, jeans, tops are not on the same scale. small, medium, large, XL, 1X, 2X... are pretty similar. You should make an in-depth study of how women's sizing works to avoid ongoing confusion. It is not difficult once you unravel the details, although the details are often not entirely logical or intuitive. Be sure to read up on the Junior, Misses, regular vs. Plus, regular vs. petit, etc.
For example, I wear a size 7 or 8 in underwear, usually size 16 or 16W or XL skirt, but Levi's Jeans are very dependent on the cut and rise ranging from 15 Junior low rise to about 16 in the mid rise (e.g. 505 or "signature") and 18 in the higher rise (e.g. 512) styles. In tops and dresses, the fit is determined by my shoulders and bust, typically 18,18W or 20; 1X or 2X depending on the maker. If you are very tall, there is often trouble in length of pans, longer skirts, tops (especially sleeves). Long Tall Sally is a great source of long sizes and larger shoe sizes up to 14-15 in most styles.
