Sir Real

For various reasons, I switched from IM injections to 1% Androgel. Having a couple issues with it, though. I put it on one shoulder/upper arm and alternate shoulders every few weeks (don't want hairy shoulders if possible lol). I originally tried putting it on my abdomen but I sweat a lot there so it wasn't working too well.

I don't put the whole packet on at once because otherwise it just kinda gets everywhere. But once it dries, it gets kinda flaky. If I wear a backpack my shirt will also sometimes stick to my shoulder from the gel. The next day when I shower, I can tell there's still a lot of gunk on my shoulder. Is that normal?

I also don't think it's a high enough dose. It feels like day 10 or 11 compared to my biweekly shots. (Haven't seen my most recent test result yet though, so it's hard to say.) I can't see my dr for another couple months.

Extra: Reason I switched is because I have to get the shots done at my pcp's office which is difficult to do biweekly for me. Also, the peaks and valleys were not great for my MH. Doing my own shots isn't really an option for me. Really wish the pellets were available here =/

You might want to switch to a different brand of gel.

I didn't have that problem when I used Cernos gel, which is very similar to Androgel/alcohol-based. I applied half the packet in the morning after a shower and half in the evening after washing my shoulders to help open the pores a little. My T levels were decent doing it that way.

Currently, I'm using a cream created by a compounding pharmacy due to cost issues. It's thicker, but goes on okay without much stickiness or residue. I take my time rubbing it in, which might help. It's slightly thicker than most moisturizers and has an almost dry texture.

I don't blame you for using a topical. I've found that they provide a more consistent experience. My last level check in July was a bit over 700. I feel like the virilization is slow, but worth it for me.

Sorry your experience isn't better.

I use Androgel, and I put it on my upper arms/triceps.  When I was applying it to my shoulders, I really didn't notice any stickiness.  I'm using two pumps once a day and my last T level was 1087 at the six month mark.  I'm due for another blood test next week, when I'll be nearly 10 months on T.

Maybe see if switching to your triceps will work better for you, stickiness-wise.

Just to update, on Sunday I had the "dreaded problem" start which lasted a few days. Monday, I called my endo then got bloodwork. Levels are completely normal, E slightly below mid-normal, T slightly above mid-normal. I'm not sure what my levels were on the injections. Got a new prescription for a slightly higher dose now but haven't actually talked with my dr yet. I guess I'll see what happens... can't help but be slightly concerned about this.

Thanks for the tip Ryuichi, that might actually be a good idea especially for days when I know I'll be wearing a backpack.

And thanks as well James, I've started taking more time rubbing it in and that has helped a lot with the flaking problem.
