My facial hair is coming in!

I'm so damned excited. I've been feeling a bit of stubble on the corners of my upper lip in recent days, and there's been increasing peach fuzz around my lips and cheeks in the last few weeks but no actual stubble ( other than a few black hairs under my chin).

Today, the stubble patches on the corners of my top lip have expanded to cover most of my upper lip amidst longer peach fuzz. Taking a magnifying mirror and a bright light, I can see shining blonde stubble!  ;D OK, it's difficult to photograph because it's still very short and of course very blonde. But I am totally thrilled to have it there. It feels so satisfying.

I hope it keeps growing. Is it time to invest in minoxidil <geez I hope I'm not falling foul of the Mods again by mentioning medication, I won't mention dosage :D > to encourage the growth? Or just let nature take its course and be patient which has its own rewards?

I did not expect to see any stubble this early, and definitely not on my face. Well, the relatively profuse eyebrow growth could have been the harbinger of greater things to come.  8)

As soon as there is enough to photograph, I'll update this post.

Has anyone else experienced real beard growth this soon on T ( entering 7 week)?

Congrats! I started having to shave my peach fuzz around two months in. It wasn't dark or anything, but it was pretty clearly growing continuously like a beard does rather than stopping at normal cis female length.

Monoxidil isn't necessarily without side effects. I had to stop because it was severely exacerbating my migraines. It also hasn't actually been clinically tested on facial hair, so all we have is anecdotes from other trans guys that claim it's helped. But it's fairly cheap and unlikely to do long term damage, so giving it a try isn't much of a risk.

Congrats man!

Never knew Minoxidil could be used for facial growth!

Nearly 10 months in, I'm letting Nature take its course.  Sure, its tempting to use something to hurry up the growth, but since I definitely have a (currently patchy) beard and thin mustache, I don't want to take anything, when T is already doing the work for me.

Puberty takes years.  I know its tempting to hurry things along, but let things happen naturally first.

Besides, buying minoxidil could be taking away money better used for other things, like a nice suit, top surgery or even simply boxer briefs/boxers/tightie whities! [emoji4]

Good luck and congrats!

You're an Aussie, yeah? Let me know if you do actually want to look into minoxidil and I'll link you to where I got it from. $60 with free shipping.

I'm currently documenting my minoxidil progress on the Testosterone boards if you want to see what it can look like if you take well to it but always look into the risks and precautions before you start and know it's not a guarantee.

I've been on for almost 3 and a half years and I haven't touched minoxidil. The skin on your face is vastly different from the skin on your head so in my honest opinion I wouldn't touch it. I've read testimonials about minox and most of the guys either got a bad rash, acne, dry skin and/or the hair they grew fell out after using the product. My advice would be to just wait patiently. You'll be glad you did I think.

At a little under two years in so far, testosterone has given me an extremely deep voice, tons of body hair (everywhere--chest, knuckles, stomach, legs, neck... etc), a large amount of muscle growth and... modest facial hair progress. I had a solid chinstrap with the most growth/density under my chin and Adam's apple and a semi-decent mustache with pretty much nothing below my lip or on the upper more visible areas of my chin and very, very sparse hairs on my cheeks.

To say I've been frustrated about that would be an understatement. At thirty, I don't really feel like waiting around forever for a quarter of the growth my peers are already sporting.
I started using minoxidil a little over three weeks ago and I've already noticed huge changes. The facial hair I did have has thickened up considerably and feels much more coarse to the touch. The patchy areas have started to fill in, I'm finally getting dark hair on the upper part of my chin and under my lip as well as on my cheeks. And, in general, I have loads more vellus hairs where it was totally smooth/bald before.

My plan is to stick with it for a year or so like most natal males with poor growth. Everything I've seen and read indicates that, once the hair goes terminal, it will not fall out once the usage of medication has ceased. This is not the case for hair on the head, though, which is why men using it for MPB have to continue indefinitely. If you stop taking it in the vellus hair stage (you see a bunch of blonde hairs popping up and just decide to let them grow on their own), they will most likely fall out.

One thing to keep in mind is this: It doesn't work for everyone. Some guys see stunning results, others see next to nothing.
For me, my frustration with progress and need for significant change outweighed my concerns over potential side-effects. Beyond that, it's pretty cheap and mindless to apply.
I had nothing to lose and everything (I've been dying for a beard since I was seven) to potentially gain.

Please do give me the link to the minoxidil source. Cheers.

I'll keep an eye on your minoxidil progress too, since I won't be using it until I get top surgery. It'll just look too odd to have a full beard and full boobs :D

Just curious, with all the body hair you are sprouting, are you by any chance very dark haired? I seem to see a pattern of lots of body hair and dark hair in general v fair haired types ( like me) with thin layer of body hair. Then again, I've not been on T that long to be too judgemental on my progress. Though I am surprised to see so much fuzz around my cheeks and the stubble on my top lip, but no noticeable body hair increase so far.

I'll hold off the minoxidil until I've got top surgery. Now I"m pressing towards the surgery because of all the facial fuzz happening already, of course, I could end up with lots of fuzz for a long time, who knows.

Adverse skin reaction does worry me, I have to admit.

I'm planning to give nature a bit of extra time since I don't want a full beard before top surgery is done. I've got an appointment with a surgeon in September and I doubt I'll get a date before January 18, so plenty of time for the facial hair to get going naturally.

I have to say, though, it's really fun to watch it come in slowly.

Thanks, mate. I'm not sure if it would stop growing at normal cis female length since I don't want to walk around work with all that fuzz so it gets shaved on Sunday night. It is growing pretty fast though.

The potential side effects do concern me, of course. I'll see how the natural growth is going over the next six months or so.

My hair's pretty dark for a whitey but not quite black. It looks darker, though, because I'm so pale.
That's sort of how it was going with me. Tons of new fuzz sprouted everywhere in a general beard pattern and I was stoked as hell... until it pretty much just stayed that way. It grew a lot (more than the lame peachy female stuff) but it never really started darkening or thickening anywhere but my jawline and mustache until the minoxidil. Of course, everyone's genetically different, so you could luck out way better than I did.

If you'd like to view a blog made by an FTM man who used Minoxidil I'd try loadingbeard.tumblr.com. Oliver used it for 13 or so months when he was at 2 years on testosterone. He already had some pretty good coverage though. I'd say minox made a slight change but due to his continued use of testosterone and genetics, the beard grew as it would naturally but with a little help.

Very impressive, and I'm sure that he had the genetics to give him that extra advantage too. In my case, I don't think I'll have the genetics. I have half brothers, one has plenty of beard to hide knives in,  and the other is struggling to put on any facial hair and is practically without any body hair ( nothing on legs, arms, chest). But they are both dark and we only share our mother. So, they are not much guidance for me.  I'll have to wait and see what happens; it's all part of the fun of transitioning.

Look out for those vellus hairs. Those are the long blonde hairs poppin up on your face. Chances are if you have a good vellus hair pattern, youll have a pretty good beard by the time they turn terminal. You can see a whole bunch of mine in my beard progress thread.

I've got a lot of vellus hair along my side burn areas and under by bottom lip. I have been shaving it because it looks, well, not great and I do have to look reasonably professional in my line of work.

Interestingly, my top lip seemed to skip the vellus stage and go straight for stubble, or the vellus hair was very short before it turned into the terminal stage. I don't know how long it would actually grow because I have to shave it off after three days due to maintaining that boring professional look at work.

I've heard, though, that vellus hair can remain vellus hair for easily 12 months before actual beard type hair starts growing. How long before your vellus changed into the terminal stage?

Oh gee. Anywhere from a month to 3 years (where I'm at now) My pattern started with my chin first > side burns > neck > cheeks and now we're working on the mustache. You can tell a beard is going terminal if the tip is blonde but the root is course/changing colour. If you can take some pictures I could probably help you out a little bit but patience and genes are your biggest factors.

That's what I thought. Minoxidil will definitely be on my shopping list since I don't plan to wait years.

Hmmm... my beard, when it comes, could be red so it will be hard to tell at the moment until I can get a chance let the existing hair grow longer than a few days ( as I mentioned, I'm working, I'm not out at work and so I can't it grow freely for a while yet).

I'll keep monitoring ( what else is there to do in 24 hours of a day but monitor facial hair growth and voice changes  ;D).

Even with minoxidil the hair on my chin is only just starting to go terminal and the vellus hair has been there for about 6 months now. Even had a few transitional hairs doing nothing for at least 5 months. Has been about the same with my moustache.

Earliest I had terminal hairs showing up after minox was about a month though. Woke up one day with sideburns.
