Hey Everyone,

I'm approaching my 30th month mark into HRT (2 Years F/T as of this month) and I've been doing some research into facial feminization surgeons/teams but I'm finding myself completely lost at this point and was hoping someone might have suggestions or recommendations for a surgeon close to or in the state of Virginia?

A couple reasons why I need to stay close to home are that I can't really afford to travel and because i'm a parental caregiver for my mother who is a disabled double amputee and requires 24/7 round the clock care. I'm in the process of starting work on a care plan for her in the event that I can/do move forward with my FFS. Though everyone I know tells me I don't need it because I appear quite feminine, i'm still self conscious about it.

Another factor is I'm in the long grueling process of losing weight. I say long because i've been doing it since 2014 & lost 350 pounds before putting 80 back on when my mother's health went downhill & now I'm back on track working to  my goal weight. I mention this only because I'm wondering if it will affect my surgery & if perhaps I should wait until I get my weight down more or if that even matters.

I appreciate any input.

Hi Kensi,

Yes, large weight changes can affect your surgery, but your surgeon will be the one to tell you what will be required. I don't know of any plastic surgeons that specialize in FFS in Virginia.  The nearest FFS surgeons that I can think of are in Florida (Mardirossian), North Carolina (MacPhee) Pennsylvania (Rumer, McGinn, Leis) , New York (Bluebond-Langner, Lee), and Massachusetts (Spiegel). There are many, many others across the US.  I live in Alexandria, VA and ended up going to Dr. Zukowski in Chicago.

I have to say, though, travel should be the least of your concerns for FFS. I don't know what course of treatment you are considering, but I had extensive FFS, everything from my scalp to my trachea, and recovery was hell.  FFS is major surgery, and you will be essentially non-functional for a couple of weeks, and certainly in no position to take care of anyone 24/7, not even yourself. You should pick the best surgeon you can afford, have confidence in their approach, and be in agreement on what they propose to do.

With kindness,

Terri

I would not let geographical location determine my surgeon.. ever.  I know of an amazing Dr. in Chicago that should be considered.. but I am biased because he did me.. Dr. Z my hero.
Anyway,
Maybebaby give me a call sometime... we lost touch after my last visit.. I have been busy busy busy and would love to chat with ya girl
