Switching to Soul Source Dilators

Hi lovelies !!!

I am approximately two months post-op and everything has been healing well.

My surgeon provided me with six dilators after surgery.  They are clear poly plastic with the largest one being 21/16" in diameter.

I recently ordered a set of GCS dilators from Soul Source.  I did this because (a) I am terrified of losing my dilators or having them stolen, (b) I would like a second set I can keep at work during busy periods, and (c) Soul Source offers dilators with a larger diameter.  I am currently using the largest dilator provided by my surgeon and might consider moving up to a larger size sometime.

The Soul Source dilators have a slight curve at the distal end.  The ones provided by my surgeon do not - they are straight.

I have struggled a bit to get the Soul Source ones in.  I'm not sure whether this is because:
- my surgeon designed the vaginal vault to be straight, not curved
- my body has healed and adapted to the shape of the existing dilators
- my body just hasn't adjusted to the shape of the Soul Source ones yet; or
- a combination of the above

Has anyone else switched from straight to curved dilators?  How did that go?  Does it mean just pushing through the discomfort?  Or is it a bad idea in the first place using both sets?

Thanks for the advice!

From what I've read and seen in various pictures dilators also vary in how pointed the ends are. The soul source are quite blunt compared to some, which could make them more difficult to get in, and to reach depth. At a guess you might need to start with a much smaller one and progress up.

Hello Claire,

I haven't switched to Soul Source dilators, I use them since the beginning. Currently I'm switching between Blue and Green.

With all sizes I had and have two spots where I have to first change angle and for the second resistance point I have to apply more pressure.

I know it's not 100% the answer you are waiting for but I hope it's still helpful somehow

Posting to follow this topic because I'm curious too.

I'm considering purchasing the #4 orange dilator from Soul Source just because their products are so widely used and more or less somewhat of a standard. The dilator I'm using now from vaginismus.com is 1.5" in diameter, same as the Soul Source #4 but it is straight and more tapered and I'm curious if the curved shape and less taper is somehow better? I'm also curious if the more blunt end on the Soul Source #4 makes it harder to use and if the curve makes any difference?

Not that it matters much, it's been over 40 years since I had surgery but it's nice to keep things in working order.

Thanks Thessa,

This might be a really peculiar question, but which direction is the curved meant to be oriented? It the pointy end meant to be curving towards the front or back of the body?

I tried both ways but neither was comfortable. And rotating it 180 degrees while it was inserted was kind of unpleasant !

Thanks for your help.

Hi Claire,

it's supposed to point to the front of the body. Rotating while inside sounds very unpleasant. [emoji15]

I suggest to talk to your gyn, maybe they can have a look inside and find the cause of you discomfort.

I am about 8.5 months post op and have been using soul source dilators since GCS. I use the #1 for 5 minutes then #4 for 25 minutes each day. I slightly rotate the orange dilator back and forth to get it in more easily.
