My retinal doctor deals with 3-5 people at any given hours, and this was my third time seeing him. 4 or 5 months ago was the my last visit, anyways all went well.  I had a word salad when I was explaining my vision, it was like "When I shake my head I see them", and he repeated my statement like a question, then I said "When I shake-shift-shift-look at my-shift eyes I see them., that's what I meant" with a stutter.  I should be more concern about that, but I thought I look mentally slow in that moment. He didn't really say anything to me, but he also deals with a  diverse population.

Re-ask 4 month old questions, he said, "We already talk about this, and ....."insert info"", "I already told you" (I have a tendency to say that to close family members when I explain a serious thing to them and then ask again; I'll never use those phrases again). I know he is intelligent with a  good memory because he should had forgotten about me with the amount of people he sees (he has other locations). And he did explain it... so it made me wonder if he saw me as dumb, nothing against him or anything... that word salad put me off.

Do you think intelligent people can read someone dumber than themselves easily?

Word salad is when people say a lot of what seems like nonsense put together. You describe them repeating things back to you.

Doctors often do this I assume because patients themselves are sometimes unsure of how to describe their own symptoms. Getting them to repeat or agree to a statement they themselves made as correct is one way to affirm this is what they mean or that they are absolutely sure of what they describe.

Perhaps you're reading too much into other people's means of understanding you.
