Return of fertility after years in HTR

I am decided to try to get fertility back again. I am 28 years old now and I started my therapy four years ago. I have been mostly on estradiol and spiro.

I know it is a silly thing to do. And the correct thing to do was to freeze  sperm before starting HRT.  I am very sad about the bad decisions i took  years ago  , I had no support of my family  either money.

Now four years after i am a lot better, i am not planning  de-transition, but i would like to have some frozen sperm. So my plan is to stop HRT for some months o even a year.

I would like to ask to anyone for personal expiriences of real people who had tried this. I think there is no medical interest in these topics so no real investigation in these line. So all We have is personal experiences of real people.  I am decided to try it out. But i would like to know how has it worked for others.

What I know is there was a FTM/MTF couple on the site who received treatment from the time they entered puberty. They were in the UK so it's likely they both received GnRH analogs along with hormones. In their late teens/early 20s both discontinued treatment long enough to conceive and have a child. Spiro might have different effects and age or genetics might be a factor. In short, it has been done but I have no idea as to what the odds are.

The points that need to be considered are can you produce viable sperm after withdrawal of cross sex hormones and anti-androgens. How mobile are they and are they carrying a higher degree of genetic mutation than normal.

The first is pretty easy to establish although it may be emotionally difficult. The mobility and chance for them to be able to fertilise an egg can be established by a IVF clinic. The third is pretty problematic. You would have to be careful in the foetal screening process and decide on what known genetic deformities you would accept or which you would decide to abort on. You would also need to accept that the screening would not by any means be complete and you may have a high incidence of a child suffering genetic defects.

Hard call and I don't have any advice.

Been there, done that a few times during my "WTF am I Doing " meltdowns. It aint pleasant. Worse is fully knowing what an angry depressed bitch you are because you did.

Like Cindy said the big IF is can you make little swimmers that can do their job.

Another BIG consideration I would have if it were me.... Do I even want to take the chance of passing this ...... Thing, onto any off-spring? HRT does more then mess with your head, as my wife will say. I ask as a likely DES baby.

TBH - I can't even wish onto my worst or most hated enemies a case of GD

I see you are a cleaver woman! I had not even thought about the problem of genetic mutations, of course it is an issue... Do you think is there some method for verifing the sequence of all genes in the sample? they are mostly 46 cromosomes in there, may be is there some method so sequence all what is in there and make some stadistical analysis?  Of course the option of foetal screening will be good one... of course if i get that far!

Thank you for your advice, i guess it will be very hard for me too 🙁 .  Being born Trans its a hard thing in life and of course i would not be happy if any of my probable offspring would suffer this.  I dont belive there is a big chance for this to happen, but you have a good point! ....

I have some first hand experience with this after being on HRT for 3 years. For other reasons I had stopped Testosterone blockers for 6 months but continued Estraidiol.  I stopped all HRT for one month and then went to the Sperm bank.

They were able to preserve the sperm, but off course it had low motility and heads were crooked. But the Provider stated that this does happen at their practice a lot with non transgenders as well and IVF ICSI would be able to be done.  So I was able to bank the sperm.  As to weather there are risks associated with birth etc,  This depends on factors including the mother of the child's genetics and history.

So it is possible to get the sperm back, I don't know if stopping the T blockers helped, I did notice that lowering the dose also did slow some of the feminisation body wise, but not totally masculinize me.
