Hi hannahh. If Susan's okay with it then obvs so am I. Nice to know people are interested in trans stuff! I'll just post what I've got to say here, rather than PM.

My birth name is Joe. I was never particularly happy with it, before I realised I was trans. When I came to that (sudden) realisation at the age of 22, I wanted to get as far away from my male identity as possible, so I tried out (online etc.) uber-female names such as Cecelia, Leila, Victoria, and so on. As I tried out living as a woman - social transition etc. - I started to accept certain things about my masculine life. I came to see myself as a sort of tomboy. I decided to keep the letter J, because it's cool. Then, I wanted an English name that was long-ish, but could shorten to something still unambiguously feminine. Jennifer was basically the only option, so I've been using "Jenny". I've been trying it out in real life, and I'm mega comfortable with it - partly because I'm 6'2 and think anything super-glamorous would sound a bit silly - and so, at this point, I think Jenny will stay.

I just answered another thread on this, so I'll just cut & paste my answer from there:

I picked mine because it sounded a bit like my old name and it kept my initials the same.  My wife had innumerable suggestions, but none of them felt like they fit me.  The fact that it appears in those hokey baby name lists of the year I was born in is a bonus.

I chose Tony.

My son's name is Anthon. And Tony is short for Anthon. That way we have a connection in family.

Also, I know noone called Tony. I know one Toni, but that is not the same. And we are not close.

My second option is Oliver. But Oliver does not feel right in the same way as Tony.

In Sweden you can only have one name. So I'll go for Tony. I've called myself Tony for 7 years online.

I have always loved the name Bobbie LeAnn and chose that as my name. It fits how I feel inside.

Mine is simple. My Male name is Norm or Norman. Never liked it. Always wished people would call me Norma every once and a while someone would mistakenly say Norma. And I loved it. I understand wanting nothing to do with your old self. But I feel this is just the next chapter in my life. I will have no problem starting stories from my past with oh back then in so and so year when I was a guy, this happened. Lol. Being a guy was part of my life and forgetting it to me makes no sense. I originally also liked it because initials would be the same. But I will be having a different middle name. I don't like it and definitely does not go with my gender so the middle name is Lynne. And Norma Lynne goes well together. Funny, Lynne was my ex wife's middle name as well as my current wife's middle name. She has never said anything. So I guess she is ok with it. Another reason why I like my middle name.
